Supplemental learning–two handouts

In case you are interested in keeping up with your Spanish, I am including two handouts.  One is similar to a Scattergories game that you could play with others in your household/friends via the computer/phone. . . the other is a handout where you could complete a movie review in Spanish since I am sure we have all watched a movie or two during our “physical distancing” from others.  Enjoy!

1st handout (Scattergories):  If you are looking at this handout, you would first fill in letters down the side. . . then, in order from left to right:  city, country, river, a noun, a verb, an adjective, an animal, fruit or vegetables and then “total points” where you would count how many you got from left to right for each letter.  The purpose behind the game is that if you came up with the same word as someone else, you would both cross it off and the winner is the one with the most unique/accurate responses (helps to practice the vocabulary you know already. . . obviously, for city, country and river, you could do those in English and that could help you practice your social studies as well).

Spanish Scattergories

2nd handout:  A movie reivew. . . in case you are wondering what the different items are, the first section has you describe the main characters (four of them); then describe the plot; on the back side, describe the themes; where does the movie take place; did you like the movie?, and explain why or why not.

“Distance learning” for all

As we navigate through these unprecedented times, I hope you and your family are doing well.  I wanted to take a moment to give you an update on how I foresee Spanish class continuing throughout the school year so that each may earn credit.  It seems as though with this “distance learning” for all, we will be continuing with this for the rest of the school year, unfortunately.=(  My hope is that everyone will still have their book and workbook (Spanish 2-5) at home so we can continue our Spanish learning (there will be plans to pick up workbooks and books from my classroom or your lockers at some point in the few days or so. . . stay tuned).  I plan to set up a Google Classroom for each different Spanish level and Meets/Hangouts where lessons can be taught, student work can be shared, assignments and such submitted, etc.  Email is the best way to get in touch with me at this point (jsnider@fernridge.12.or.us).   At the top of the main page on my blog includes the Fern Ridge School District website (with updates) as well as some sites to continue practicing Spanish (Duolingo and Conjuguemos).  I encourage you to take a look at them and below is a link to some apps that might be useful to practice until we get everything up and running and figuring things out/problem-solving to meet everyone’s needs.  Please get in touch with me if you have any questions, concerns, ideas or just need someone to connect with/share stories (it was great to talk to my homeroom’s parents/guardians) as we are practicing “physical distancing” at this point.  We all need to pull together, help each other and take care of one another. . . and, we will get through this and become stronger together.  I really am missing our daily learning, interactions, stories and adventures that make Elmira High School a great place to be.

Unidad 6.2 work

After completing the assessment from Unidad 6.1 on March 5, Kaitlin and Bailey started their chapter on Monday, March 9.  Please keep up with the work they have been assigning (workbook pages, vocabulary was due on March 12 and the writing piece and workbook will be due the day we resume classes).  The plan was for those students to take their vocabulary quiz a couple of days after that, so I would recommend studying the vocabulary from p.445, and they have already discussed what it’s going to look like so you can best prepare.  I figure once all three groups have completed their chapters and assessments, each group will go through and correct the writing pieces as well as the assessments before I take a look at everything and give everyone feedback (you reflect on how it went in your own group as well as your reflection being a student in the other two chapters).

Unidad 6.1 work

After we finished our last assessment and spent a few days in the computer lab last week, Dean and Jessica started their chapter (Unidad 6.1).  Make sure you are completing the work that is assigned for them (vocabulary was due today and workbook/writing piece are due tomorrow).  The vocabulary quiz is on Thursday over their words (they discussed the layout today).  Keep working hard!

Unidad 5.3 assessment on Thursday (speaking part on Wednesday)!

This past week, you took the vocabulary quiz over Unidad 5.3 on Thursday and completed your Valentine’s Day card for your classmate.  We discussed the speaking portion of the test which will take place on Wednesday (partners to act out scenes of a movie and it will be a game as well to see who can guess the movie first).  There will be time to prepare your 15 movie scenes in your group on Tuesday after we go over the test notes to prepare for the rest of your assessment on Thursday over Unidad 5.3.  Keep working hard!

pages 135-136 workbook due Friday; workbook due 2/7

Throughout the week, we practiced with the vocabulary (p.395) as well as the grammar concepts.  The final two workbook pages (135-136) were assigned on Tuesday and due Friday.  We completed the listening pages on that day as well, and turned in the workbook as well as played “Tengo” with our vocabulary.  The quiz will be on Thursday (2/13) and don’t forget about the Valentine’s Day card for your classmate to be handout out on Friday.

p.132 workbook (bottom activity); p.395 vocabulary due today; writing piece Thursday

Yesterday, we discussed movies and completed activity 8 on p.132 (in two groups, came up with six questions about a movie and then wrote down the answers that your peers gave and you answered two of the questions as well).  Then, we practiced with the vocabulary and hopefully everyone has it to turn in today!  Don’t forget about your writing piece that is due this Thursday!

Writing piece due 2/6; Valentine’s Day card

Yesterday, after finishing and reviewing p.131 in the workbook, we discussed the writing piece that is due next Thursday (about literature–favorite book, author, book made into a movie–compare/contrast, make up if you wrote a book what it would be like, etc.).  Also, we drew names for the Valentine’s Day card so you can start thinking about the design and what you want to do for it.  There was time to work on the above items or your vocabulary that is due on Tuesday (p.395).

p.131 workbook

Today, we went through the “En Contexto” in Spanish as well as English, and then worked on p.131 in the workbook (vocabulary page).  We will review this workbook page at the beginning of class on Thursday.  Keep working on your vocabulary, which is due at the beginning of class on Tuesday (definitions).

p.395 vocabulario (definitions)

Today, we started Unidad 5.3.  with the objectives and going through the questions and our new vocabulary list together on p.395.  We decided that everyone will do their own vocabulary with definitions but when it comes to the quiz, it will be a group quiz.  The vocabulary is due next Tuesday, February 4, at the beginning of class.  Think about a writing piece topic!
