This week in Mr. Hart’s class:

  • AP Lit: We will rush headlong into the finale of “Great Expectations”
  • English 3A: We will begin our next unit of “The Crucible”

  • Contemporary Lit: We will begin our next unit with “The Things They Carried”

Week of November 25, 2019

This (short) Week in Mr. Hart’s Class:

  • English 3A: We will finish watching “Huck Finn” with a possible in-class writing assignment after the film
  • Poetry: Students will share their “Dead Poets” poem and receive a handout on Walt Whitman – which we will begin on Tuesday
  • AP Lit: We will continue our study of “Great Expectations”
  • Contemporary Lit: We will finish our conversation on bias/prejudice and possibly begin reading “The Things They Carried”

Week of November 18, 2019

This week in Mr. Hart’s classes:

  • AP Lit will continue working on “Great Expectations”
  • English 3 will be watching the film version of “Huckleberry Finn” and taking the final test on Thursday
  • Poetry will be watching “Dead Poet’s Society” and writing a poem
  • Contemporary Lit will be finishing up “12 Angry Men” with a writing assignment and the movie version

Week of November 4, 2019

This week in Mr. Hart’s classes:

  • English 3: We will be reading and discussing chapters 31 – 36 this week from “Huckleberry Finn”
  • Poetry: Students will be participating in a special opportunity with Jorah LaFleur from Wordcrafters in Eugene.  They will be working on a “spoken word” style of poetry with a performance on Friday in the Theater!
  • AP Lit: We will be reading and discussing chapters 19 – 29 from “Great Expectations”
  • Contemporary Lit: We will finish up “Cuckoo’s Nest” with discussion of the novel, a test, and the movie.  Students will need to get their permission slips turned in as soon as possible!

We have a BIP Assembly on Thursday for all students who did not get a referral this past quarter.  Hopefully that was YOU!

This week in Mr. Hart’s classes:

  • English 3: We will be reading Chapters 26-32 of “Huckleberry Finn”.  Monday, there is a reading quiz covering the first 25 chapters.  Tuesday, there is a vocabulary quiz
  • Poetry: We will have our annual “Seuss-Off!” on Monday, and then we will spend the week reviewing for our Mid-Term Test on Thursday
  • AP Lit: We will be reading  and discussing chapters 8-16 from “Great Expectations”
  • Contemporary Literature: We will finish the book “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest”.  Test for the book will be next Thursday.  Vocabulary test on Tuesday of this week

Halloween is this Thursday!  Costume contests in your 3rd period classes, so dress up!

Friday there is no school for students.  It is the end of 1st quarter, so Friday is a teacher work day.

  • Contemporary Lit: We will read Part 3 of “Cuckoo’s Nest”

Happy Homecoming Week!

This week in Mr. Hart’s classes:

  • Contemporary Lit: Students will be discussing Part 1 of “Cuckoo’s Nest”, and we will begin reading Part 2

What’s with the cold weather?  It can’t be winter yet!

This week in Mr. Hart’s classes:

  • English 3: We will be reading both in class and at home from “Huckleberry Finn”.  Students will get a new vocabulary list on Wednesday.  Students who failed the last vocabulary test may make it up this week.
  • Poetry: We will be discussing tone, connotation/denotation, and diction (word choice) this week
  • AP Lit: We will be continuing our first (of three) look at poetry by readings from the text as well as homework analysis of selected poems
  • Contemporary Lit: We will continue reading “Cuckoo’s Nest” in class and at home.  There is a vocabulary test on Wednesday

Howdy!

This week in Mr. Hart’s classes:

  • English 3: We will be working on our Personal Narrative essays in the beginning of the week.  At the end of the week we will begin our unit on Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain
  • Poetry: We will be learning about and practicing using similes, metaphors, and personification (Figurative Language)
  • AP Lit: We will continue with our introduction to poetry.  We will read various poems all week and analyze them for various techniques
  • Contemporary Lit: We will begin our unit on One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest by Ken Kesey
