Science FactoryWe are pleased to announce that the Science Factory Children’s Museum will be visiting Veneta Elementary School on Wednesday, May 28th from 5:30 to 7:45 for a family Science Night. This event is open to all of our families and community members. The theme of the program is Alternative Energy, with a focus on biofuels. Students and their families will learn about the different ways that we currently power our transportation, including fossil fuels, electricity, and corn ethanol. They will learn about the advantages and disadvantages of these fuel sources, and how scientists are currently hard at work looking for other energy sources, including biofuel from plants other than corn. Participants will have the chance to model the process of extracting energy from both fossil fuels and plants, and use scientific instruments to measure the physical and chemical properties of plants. The program consists of approximately 10 activity tables and is appropriate for first grade and up. It generally takes participants about an hour to work their way through each of the activities that will be set up. We will be set up in the gym and families are invited to come at any time that evening after 5:30, but we will be closing at 7:45. This is a fun way to get your child interested in the fascinating world of science. There is no cost for this event.
