Check Out The Books In Our Book Exchange Now!!

Update: We have lots of books for younger readers in our Book Exchange. Children are encouraged to come by and exchange a book that they have already read and get a book that is new to them! We are also in need of books for third through fifth grade students. If anyone can donate  3rd thru 5th grade books to get the exchange started, that would be awesome!

You may have noticed that Veneta now has a “free book exchange schoolhouse” in the hallway outside of the office. Children can drop off books in good condition that they are no longer reading or pick up a new book to read. Right now our “Free Book Exchange” School House is small, but as the program grows and more books are exchanged, our “schoolhouse” can grow also. So help us share and spread a love of reading.

5-17-2017

Dear Families,

I have some exciting news! Beginning with the 2017-18 school year, I have been asked to be the principal at Fern Ridge Middle School. While I have greatly enjoyed my ten years at Veneta Elementary School, I am looking forward to the challenge and change this move represents.

I am happy to announce that Peter Barsotti, who is currently the principal at Fern Ridge Middle School, will be coming to Veneta Elementary School. Peter is one of the most energetic and enthusiastic individuals I know. He cares deeply for children and is committed to ensuring that they have a positive learning environment. I know that Mr. Barsotti will continue all the things that make this school special and provide all of the students at Veneta a successful school environment.

I want to thank you for letting me have the honor and privilege of being your child’s principal. You have the most amazing children who have made me laugh at their jokes and beam at their accomplishments and fill with pride as I have watched them grow over the years. If once in a while this has been an incredibly difficult position, it has absolutely always been incredibly rewarding in ways that I don’t have the words to describe. It may sound like a cliché but it is absolutely true- while I am excited about my new position and looking forward to the move in July, a piece of my heart will always remain at Veneta Elementary.

In the meantime, we have a lot of activities and events happening between now and the end of the school year that I hope you will join us for. It’s been a fabulous school year so far and I know these last five weeks will be the best yet.

Sincerely,

Olivia Johnson

Veneta Elementary School Principal

As we prepare for the flurry of end of the year activities, we also have to start planning for the 17-18 school year. On Monday, May 15th we will be sending home a packet of registration information. We are asking families to please update your information and make sure we have current phone numbers, emergency contacts, addresses, etc. Send the updated forms back to school with your child. Forms need to be returned by May 25th.

If you are planning to move or are otherwise not returning to Veneta Elementary, please note that on the forms and return them to us.

The bus barn is planning some changes to transportation next year including the potential of route changes. Families will need to update transportation information in August. Watch for information on the website on how to do that or plan on coming to registration on August 22nd, 23rd, and 24th. The only information that will need to be updated in August will be transportation.

Supply lists will be posted on the website before the office closes at the end of June. Class lists will not be posted until the week before school starts- August 28th.

All students, even returning students, must be registered by Thursday, August 31st if they want to start the first day of school, Tuesday September 5th.

This week (May 8th thru May 12th) is Teacher Appreciation Week and we want to take a moment to recognize and thank the hard working and absolutely amazing teachers of Veneta Elementary School. Teachers do so much more than simply teach- they guide, they care, they motivate, they inspire, they serve, and they give. For 36 weeks every school year teachers give their time, their energy, their hearts, and themselves so that our children can learn and grow and thrive. This week is our opportunity to give something back to them. To let them know that the work they do is so greatly appreciated. So join me in taking the time this week to thank your child’s teacher for all that they do every single day.
