The EHS Booster Club meets the 3rd Wednesday of each month at 7:00 PM.  Recently they moved the meetings to the EHS Library.  The next meeting is this Wednesday, October 15th.  The Booster Club does a TON for the student athletes here at EHS, and they could always use more volunteers. Come to a meeting and check it out.

conferencesParent Teacher Conferences are this Wednesday night, October 8th, from 4-8 in the cafeteria.  If you can’t make that time teachers will also be available by appointment on Thursday from 8-12.  Please contact them directly if you can’t make the primary time on Wednesday evening.  We are 25% of the way through the 1st semester, so this is a great time to check in with teachers to see how things are going in the classroom.  On Wednesday we will have progress reports to pass out when you first come in the cafeteria, prior to checking in with teachers.  For those that cannot make it Wednesday, the reports will be mailed home.

Our EHS ASPIRE Volunteer Kick-Off Event was a Success!

Elmira High School hosted its ASPIRE Volunteer Kick-off event last night in the EHS theater. ASPIRE is a mentoring program that matches trained and supportive adult volunteer mentors with EHS high school students to develop a plan to help them meet their education goals beyond high school. This is a FANTASTIC way for parents to volunteer while at the same time learning the skills and tricks of the trade in regards to acquiring scholarships/grants and learning about the college admission process.

Those in attendance were 2 of our seasoned volunteers, Sandie Smith and Stephanie Hackett, who have been with EHS ASPIRE since its beginning in 2011, Shari Johnson, a volunteer since 2013, and Andrea Slaven, the newest member to our ASIRE team.  We covered several items including new happenings with our program for this year, Tips and tools for assisting students through the college admissions process, and toured our ASPIRE office located in the counseling center.

With a strong start, Elmira High School ASPIRE is geared up and ready to go to work with our seniors to make the class of 2015 another successful graduating group!

If you are interested in becoming an ASPIRE volunteer or just want to hear more details about the work our program is doing, please contact Mrs. Haas, EHS School Counselor and ASPIRE Coordinator.

homework clubA reminder that EHS has a drop-in homework club for all students every Tuesday and Thursday in the library from 3:30-5:00. Students need their own transportation home. On early release Wednesdays, athletes that need to stay on campus for practice at 3:30 can access a study hall/homework club from 1:30-3:20 in the EHS Computer lab.

websiteCurrently EHS has 9 teachers that keep up a lesson plan or blog website.  You can access those pages under the link on the right hand side of this page titled:  Staff Blogs & or Lesson Plans.  In the weeks to come, additional teachers will be adding sites.  These pages are a great place to get information regarding what is occurring in classes.

footballThe first home football game of the 14-15 school year is tomorrow night, September 5th at 7:00 PM.  A couple reminders and updates regarding our home football games and home athletic events in general.

1.  At each end of the grandstands, and in several areas around the field, there are are trash cans.  Please be courteous to our custodial staff who stay late to clean the stadium by disposing of your trash.

2. Young students (Middle School and younger) who visit the games should remain with their parents, or in the designated “youth” area at the East end of the home stadium.  This helps maintain an enjoyable experience for all the fans that attend games.  While it is ok for our youngest fans to not be in one of these areas, inappropriate behavior can and will result in this being required, or being asked to leave the game.  The assistance of parents in assuring the venue is safe and enjoyable for all is greatly appreciated.

3.  For home games for all sports this year there will only be one “gate” or entrance.  It will be the one on the South side of the field by the main parking lot. .  The benefits of this will be that fans will be able to flow to the restroom area without going through the gate that was usually on the North side of the field and it allows us to have more supervision staff and less “gate workers.”  The downside is that if you are used to parking in the back or north parking lot, you will need to walk through campus to the main gate on the south side of the field.

If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact the school.  Go falcons

open.houseWe would like to welcome all EHS parents to an Open House this Thursday night from 6-8 PM here at the High School.  Your child/student is certainly welcome to attend as well.  Please park in the front (south side) and follow the signs.  We look forward to seeing you and having a great start to the 14-15 school year.

early.relaseIn 2014-15 EHS will be on an Early Release Wednesday schedule.  Each Wednesday students will be released at 1:18, much like the Middle School schedule at FRMS.  There will be a study hall available in a computer lab for athletes that want to stay on campus until practice begins and do school work.  The study hall will go from 1:30-3:20. This early release schedule will allow staff some critical staff development time throughout the year.  We are excited about the way this opportunity will help staff, students and parents alike in regards to improving instruction, allowing for a wide range of staff development activities and improving outcomes and experiences for students.
