Dear friends,

It is with great pleasure that Oregon Physicians for Social Responsibility announces our thirteenth annual Greenfield Peace Scholarship. Our goal is to illuminate the perspectives of Oregon’s youth on issues of peace, health, justice, and safety in our world. The theme of this year’s scholarship is Art & Creation: Self Expression, Activism, and Social Change. Oregon PSR is asking young Oregonians who identify as BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) and who are high school juniors or seniors, or the equivalent, to respond to the prompt by creating a work of visual art.

Art is a powerful form of activism that can reach beyond social and cultural boundaries. Create a piece that uplifts and claims your experiences and understanding of the events of the past year.

Please visit oregonpsr.org for the full prompt, guidelines, resources, and application.

The deadline for submissions is March 12th, 2021. A panel of judges comprised of local artists, activists, and community members will select the winning entries. The first prize winner will receive a scholarship award of $1,000, the second $500, and the third $250. Oregon PSR will host a virtual awards ceremony in the spring to honor the scholarship recipients, display the art submissions, and hear from a keynote speaker.

Oregon Physicians for Social Responsibility is the local chapter of the U.S. affiliate of International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War, recipient of the 1985 Nobel Peace Prize for publicizing the dangers of nuclear weapons. For more than thirty years, we have worked to educate the public about the grave human health threats of war and environmental degradation.

Please help us in announcing this opportunity to Oregon’s BIPOC youth, teachers and counselors, youth groups, local youth-oriented non-profits, etc. We very much appreciate your help in spreading the word about this scholarship opportunity. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or feedback that you might have.

In peace and health,

Katy Morrow, Oregon PSR Program Assistant
