Can’t wait to see all the talent FRMS has!

~ Heather Hohnstein

It is exciting that over the last few weeks we have seen a decline in COVID-19 infections, and the data is getting closer to meeting the metric re-opening guidelines.  As such, we need to collect some information from our families.  Families that WILL NOT want their FRMS Hybrid students coming back to onsite instruction when that becomes available should contact the school office at 541-935-8230.

This message does not apply to students  in the FRSD Options program.

As we get close to the end of the first semester, we  want to remind parents who may be interested that the district has, for the first semester, implemented a Pass/No Pass option for FRMS Hybrid students.

While middle school grades (aside from Algebra) do not impact high school GPAs or appear on high school transcripts, given our current learning environment we want parents to have the choice on whether they want their  FRMS Hybrid student to be given a letter grade or a Pass/No Pass grade.

In the past, there has not been an option to take a class with Pass/No Pass vs a letter grade at the Middle School. This year that option will be available to students and families for up to one week FOLLOWING the end of the first semester (you can check your student’s grades through the Home Access Center). With the semester ending Feb 5th, this will allow a student to select this option up until the 12th of February. This will delay report cards by one week. A PARENT OR GUARDIAN may elect to inform the FRMS today, tomorrow, in a few weeks, or following final exams in early February, that they would like to take a class Pass/No Pass. The earlier you inform us, the better. Letter grades will continue to show on progress reports.  A student can elect to take one, or all five classes as Pass/No Pass. A grade of a Pass or a No Pass will NOT affect a student’s GPA. To make this change you can call FRMS at 541-935-8230 and ask to speak to Mrs. Eutsler (FRMS Secretary) or email her at teutsler@fernridge.k12.or.us

January is School Board Appreciation Month.  We want to thank our school board members who work hard to “providing excellence for every student so that each will reach their greatest potential.”

FRMS Staff want to wish all of our students and their families a  wonderful winter break and the happiest of holidays. Classes will start again on January 5th. The FRMS office will be closed for the break, but will open again at 10 AM on January 4th.

FRMS will be mailing home progress reports today (12/18). It’s important for you to carefully look over your child’s progress report and talk to them in a positive and supportive manner about their progress and how they are doing. We know that in this distance learning environment, student’s grades are not always a reflection of their potential. Let them know that there is time before the semester ends on February 5th for them to turn in missing assignments and work to improve their grades. Teachers are more than willing to work with your child to help them improve their grade.

One factor that has the biggest impact on grades is attendance. Encourage your child to attend all five of their classes every day. If a problems comes up and their internet drops, make sure they are watching the video for that class and logging the alternative attendance.

Students can access a list of missing assignments by clicking the “To Do” button in their Google Classroom App.

Our student leadership group has put together a slide show featuring lots of winter craft ideas. These craft ideas will  keep you and your family busy when winter weather keeps you inside or just give you a fun project to do with your family over the break.

Thank you to all of our leadership students who made this presentation possible and to Mrs, Hohnstein for her guidance.
