If you have questions about a specific class or assignment, please feel free to email or call that staff member for more information or clarification.

There will be no school on Friday, November 1st to give teachers the chance to complete their grades.

This post is intended to inform and remind folks about the free and reduced lunch program.  Please take advantage of it if you qualify, and if you are not sure, please fill out the application and find out!  It is a tremendous asset to our families and students.  As a reminder, if you qualify for Free or Reduced lunch, breakfast is ALWAYS FREE!  Alan Fullerton our food service director, in conjunction with  his staff, have been working hard to provide healthier and more made from scratch meal options.  Even if you don’t use this service consistently, having the option of knowing that  your child can receive free breakfast on those mornings when you are running late, is a great deal!

There are two ways to apply.  Go to this link (click here) print off the application, fill it out and drop off in the front office, or go to this link (click here) and apply directly online.

As a final reminder, you must apply each year.  Those that were eligible in 18-19, remain eligible through September 2019, however beginning Oct 1st if you did not reapply, charges are accruing.  Get your applications in ASAP.  If you have questions, please do not hesitate to contact Renee Ota at rota@fernridge.k12.or.us or 541-935-8218 Ext 2

  2. No masks or full face painting will be allowed.
  3. Costumes must not be too scary or inappropriate for the school environment. Please no gory or grotesque costumes.
  4. Absolutely no props are allowed. (no swords, weapons, wands, etc)
  5. The school is not responsible for costumes that are torn or damaged while at school.
  6. Students must wear shoes that are appropriate for school.
  7. Students who come to school wearing something inappropriate, will have to call home for new clothing or remain in the office.
  8. Dress code standards still apply, even on Halloween. Costumes that are too revealing or that promote drugs or alcohol will result in students calling home for a change of clothes.

Thanks to a very generous donation, FRMS has Duck Football Tickets for the November 16th Arizona game that students will have the opportunity to win.  Students will be entered into drawings and given the chance to win a packet of 4 tickets for the game. There will be three drawings:

  1. Perfect Attendance– All students with perfect attendance (no absences and no tardies) at the end of the quarter will be put into a drawing. 15 students with perfect attendance will have their names drawn and win tickets.
  2. Gold Star List– All students who make the Gold Star List this quarter will be entered into a second drawing for another 15 sets of tickets. Students make the Gold Star List for having no detentions, no referrals, no bus citations, and no more than 4 absences for the first quarter.
  3. High Five Drawing– Finally, all students will have the opportunity to purchase “raffle tickets” for 20 High Five tickets. All raffle tickets will be entered into this third drawing for Duck Tickets. Students can purchase as many “raffle tickets” as they have High Five tickets for.

Students can only win one time. Because they were a donation, the tickets cannot be sold. If for some reason a student doesn’t want or can’t use the tickets, we will draw another name to award the tickets to.

We are excited to have this opportunity to reward our student’s positive behavior and positive attendance with such a great incentive!

We’ve had some questions asked about the news program that is shared with students in some of our classes. This program is called “CNN 10” and is a daily video news segment produced by CNN and designed for schools to use in classrooms- like a video version of the Weekly Readers or Scholastic News parents might be more familiar with. It has a global perspective and includes stories of events happening around the world. They also include a test for teachers to use in the classroom. In classes like Social Studies or Current Events, this program has been a great tool to help students learn more about different countries as well as advancements in technology, science, etc.

This is the description from the CNN 10 website:

What is CNN 10?

Explaining global news to a global audience: This is the mission of CNN 10, a new, 10-minute news show that appears as a daily digital video on CNN.com. CNN 10 replaces CNN Student News, the network’s longest-running show that first aired in 1989. CNN 10 more effectively serves a growing audience interested in compact on-demand news broadcasts ideal for explanation seekers on the go or in the classroom. The show’s priority is to identify stories of international significance and then clearly describe why they’re making news, who is affected, and how the events fit into a complex, international society. Viewers will learn from every story on CNN 10. The show maintains a neutral position on controversial topics. It seeks to provide multiple viewpoints, clear illustrations, and general overviews instead of graphic descriptions.

We encourage parents who have questions to click on the link below and check out the videos themselves.  The link will take you to the video for today and an archive where you can watch prior videos. If, after viewing the program, you have questions or concerns, please feel free to contact your child’s teacher or the school.
