- Our lost and found is currently overflowing. Please have your child check it for their items. We will be donating what is there on the 15th to a local charity.
- Thank you to all of the students and staff who have contributed to our canned food drive. A special thank you to Bob Bruce for his organization and enthusiasm. Because of his dedication and the generosity of our students and their families the Love Project will be able to help families in need throughout our community. Continue reading
FRMS is happy to announce that we have promoted Stacy Cornelius to our main office secretary or Secretary Two replacing Amy. Stacy has been our assistant secretary or Secretary One since August and has worked for the school district for over a decade. In addition, to her work with the school district, Stacy also continues to manage the Veneta Pool for the City. Stacy is the proud parent of three sons who all graduated from Elmira High School. She is excited about her new position and we are excited to have her.
On Monday, FRMS will start forecasting for second semester electives. Students will select two electives. Below is detailed information about each of the electives so parents can start talking to their children about their choices. Just some things to keep in mind:
- Students already in band or choir will keep band or choir as their first elective.
- Students currently serving as a TA need to have teacher approval to continue as a TA.
- Students who want to take leadership must have Mr. Chamber’s approval.
- While we do our best to ensure students get their choices, it will depend upon the availability and space. This is why students will be asked to rank their choices, so if we can’t give them their first two choices we will try to give them their third.
December 4th through December 8th, FRMS students will be collecting canned and nonperishable food items to donate to the Kiwanis Food Drive. All food brought in will be donated to our local food back to help our neighbors in need. Students who bring cans of food or other nonperishable items will receive a ticket for every item they bring in. All of the tickets will go into a drawing for prizes and prizes will be drawn every day.
Then on Saturday, December 9th at 11 AM, former FRMS teacher Bob Bruce, will lead student volunteers from throughout the community on a “March of Hope” through Veneta. Families and students interested in joining the march can meet Bob at Veneta City Hall. The group will be marching down Broadway to Territorial and back again.
Seventh graders will get the opportunity to see Ballet Fantastique’s performance of An American Christmas Carol on Thursday, December 14th. They will depart FRMS at 8:45 and return by 12:30 in time for lunch at school. Permission slips will go home on Monday, December 4th and need to be returned by Monday, December 11th. Students must have a signed permission slip in order to go- verbal permission will not be accepted for this trip.
“Ballet Fantastique’s sparkling holiday tradition, An American Christmas Carol is a reimagining of Charles Dickens’ beloved story in iconic post-WWII America with their original choreography set to the velvet voice of international chart-topping jazz singer—and Oregon sweetheart—Halie Loren. Retro-glam choreography fuses drama and humor as it weaves the story of penny-pinching Ebenezer Scrooge’s transformative quest. Continue reading

Please remember that the FRMS dress code still applies. The FRMS dress code can be found in the school handbook.
Just a reminder to all parents that Fern Ridge Middle School will be in session on Monday, November 20th and Tuesday, November 21st. However t

The Kiwanis will be serving a Community Thanksgiving Dinner on Wednesday, November 22nd at 1:00 PM at Veneta Elementary. This annual tradition is open to all and free to all- a turkey dinner complete with all of the trimmings will be served.
FRMS is excited to announce that we will be making big changes to our school beginning second semester (January 29, 2018). We are moving from a six period school day to a seven period school, enabling us to offer more electives for our students. We will also be extending the school day. Our new school day will start at 8:20 and end at 3:15 on regular school days. We will start at 8:20 and end at 1:32 on Wednesdays.
Because we have changed our master schedule to include the new electives, we will be redoing all student schedules for the second semester and there will be changes. Our hope is to have students forecast for the new electives in December and have new schedules ready to go the last week of the first semester. The availability of electives will depend on the grade level. Most students will retain the elective they currently have, but have the chance to add a new elective like pop culture or journalism or computers.
We know that a new master schedule at the semester is a big change. We believe that the end result will be a change for the better for students and staff. To help families plan for the change, below is a link to our new schedule. To answer any questions you might have, please review the question and answer document below.
