Thank you,

Fern Ridge Middle School will participate in the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) on 1-27-22.  NAEP is the largest nationally representative and continuing assessment of what students know and can do in various subjects. NAEP is different from our state assessments because it is a common measure of achievement across the country. The assessment is administered by the National Center for Education Statistics, within the U.S. Department of Education.

The results are released as The Nation’s Report Card, which provides critical information about student achievement to educators, parents, policymakers, and the public. The NAEP is especially important this year as it provides a true measure of the impact of the pandemic on education across the nation. This is critical information that will be used at the state and national level. We are excited to have our 8th graders taking part in this very important national assessment of learning.

Selected randomly, approximately 45  8th graders will take either a mathematics or reading assessment. More information about NAEP questions is available at https://nces.ed.gov/nationsreportcard/parents under the section “What Questions Are on the Test?”

The assessment takes approximately 2 hours for most students, which includes transition time, directions, and completion of survey questions. Individual results are not tracked and grades are not impacted. Data gathered is reported at the state or national level only.

Families of the selected 8th grade students selected by the NAEP will be mailed letters home January 10th with additional information. Students will also be given the same letter to take home during their language arts class. Please read the information in the letter carefully. Only students who receive letters will be taking the assessment.
