Olivia Johnson

Olivia Johnson has been the principal at Veneta Elementary for seven years. Prior to that, she served as the special education director for the Fern Ridge School District. She has been an educator and an administrator at the elementary and middle school levels for over twenty years.

Out of an abundance of caution, the School District in consultation with First Student, is announcing a 2-hour delay for tomorrow, Tuesday the 14th.  Typically we will wait until the morning when the weather pattern is uncertain, however Accuweather is showing an  “expected” pattern in the morning that is problematic.  At 4AM It is expected to be 32 degrees, and then get cooler as follows:  5 AM:  31 degrees, 6 AM: 30 degrees, 7 AM: 30 degrees, 8 AM: 29 degrees.

When the driving conditions turn dangerous after 5:30 or 6:00 AM, it is difficult for the District to change course as parents and students are expecting buses to be there to pick up students.  While there certainly is the opportunity for the roads to be fine in the morning, the District will be operating on a 2 hour delay–based on the forecast and roads that are currently very wet.  Any changes or updates will be shared here.  Please pass along this information.  A phone dialer will go out this evening to all families and FRSD staff.

At Fern Ridge Middle School, we will open our doors to students at 10:00 AM. Classes will start promptly at 10:30 AM. Dismissal remains the same at 3:10 PM.

Christmas SweaterFRMS Student Leadership is proud to announce that December 17th will be Crazy Awesome Sweater Day!!! Students are encouraged to wear the funniest, craziest, and most awesome holiday sweaters. Prizes will be awarded to the second period class with the highest percentage of students participating in this holiday spirit day.

Thanksgiving Vacation for Fern Ridge Middle School will be Wednesday the 24th thru Friday the 26th. FRMS will be in session on Monday the 22nd and Tuesday the 23rd. There is always some confusion around next week because the elementary schools are closed on Monday and Tuesday for their parent conferences, so we just wanted to remind our families that FRMS will be in school Monday and Tuesday.

2021 S.A.N.T.A. Project Toy Giveaway will take place Saturday, December 11th from 9 AM to 3 PM at Veneta Elementary School. Participants are required to provide proof of residency within the Fern Ridge or CAL school districts. Proof of the age for each child is also required. No income verification is needed. Children are not allowed at the toy giveaway.

FRMS Coin Wars!!!

November 8th thru December 3rd!

Students can bring their spare change to school and help support the Kiwanis Club of Fern Ridge Holiday Baskets. Spare change will be collected in first period classes. Any classroom that raises more than $100 will get an ice cream party. The classroom that raises the most money will win a pizza and ice cream party.

Most importantly, funds raised go to help support families in our community who are in need this holiday season. A little bit of change can make a huge difference in the fight against hunger in the Fern Ridge area.

Dear Families,

Recently, we learned that a student on campus has tested positive for COVID-19.  As members of the school community, we understand that this might raise concerns alongside a caring response.

At this time, we are conducting contact tracing (if they have been on campus during the infectious period) which includes but is not limited to: reviewing cohort logs, interviewing  staff, and checking cameras.

If contact tracing determines that your child is a close contact and needs to be quarantined, you will be personally contacted by school staff within 24-48 hours of the school being notified.

While it is our goal to keep students in school, please be vigilant in regards to watching for primary COVID symptoms. Primary symptoms include: fever of 100.4 or higher, cough, congestion, chills, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, new loss of taste or loss of smell.

We will keep you updated with any new information as it comes out, while meeting the requirements to honor everyone’s right to privacy.

If you have any questions, please contact Olivia Johnson, Principal (ojohnson@fernridge.k12.or.us) or Eric Carman Assistant Principal (ecarman@fernridge.k12.or.us) or Nurse Elliott, our district nurse, at selliott@fernridge.k12.or.us. You can also call Ms. Johnson or Mr. Carman at 541-935-8230

Thank you,

Olivia Johnson

Great News! Repairmen worked into the night on Friday and we were able to fire up the boilers this morning. 🙂  We are heating up! Thank you to our students  and staff for their patience. Thank you to everyone who worked to get the system repaired and running again.
