FRMS is holding a raffle to help raise money to pay for field trips for our middle school students. The raffle, along with a silent auction and a Staff vs Student Basketball game, is part of what we are calling our March Madness Fundraiser. Our goal is to raise at least $4,000 to help fund field trips. Currently, the school district does not pay for field trips for students. Any field trips that our students go on is paid for by funds raised by school fundraisers like our March Madness fundraiser.
Beginning today and ending on March 9th, students should sell raffle tickets to family and family friends. All they need to do is to collect the money and put the names of the individuals and the number of tickets sold on the envelope. Most families with students attended Veneta or Elmira should be familiar with this process. Parent volunteers will put names on tickets and put the tickets into a drawing. We have some nice prizes to give away, including $400 in gift cards from Winco Foods. Students can also earn prizes for selling tickets. For every $5 in tickets a student sells, they get their name in a drawing for prizes like passes to the City Pool. In addition, students can earn the following prizes: Continue reading
Fern Ridge Middle School will hold their Second Semester Parent Conferences on Thursday, March 1st from 4 PM to 8 PM. Evening conferences are generally more heavily attended and FRMS uses an “arena” style conference on Thursday night where all teachers are in the commons. Parent conferences are “drop by” and appointments are not needed. If there are parents ahead of you, we ask that you wait and teachers will be with you as soon as possible.
The Scholastic Book Fair will be open on Thursday night from 4 PM to 8 PM so families can stop by and purchase a book on their way in or out of conferences. This is the buy one, get one free Book Fair.
School will be closed on Friday, March 2nd.
Please Note: As we did in the fall, we will not send home progress reports before parent conferences. We will have mid-term progress reports ready for parents to pick up during conferences in the commons.
FRSD has updated their emergency closure information handout to include times/stops for snow routes based on the new schedule for FRMS. Clink on the links below for the updated information.

FRMS 6th and 8th grade students will be taking part in the Oregon Student Wellness Survey, sponsored by the Oregon Health Authority and the Oregon Department of Education. It will ask 6th, 8th, and 11th grade students about academic commitment, the school environment, positive youth development, and behavioral risks such as fighting, depression, substance use, and gambling. The SWS gathers information that is used to plan and evaluate programs that address these areas. The survey provides schools and communities a clear picture of what the problems are, what prevention efforts/programs are working, and how we can better support youth in our community.
The survey will take 45 minutes or less. Data gathered will be anonymous. The data will be reported back in groups only- no individual data will be reported. Students will not be asked to put their name or any identifying information on the survey. Students are free to skip questions or stop at any point. Parents can also opt their child out of the survey by returning the attached letter by Thursday, February 22nd. A hard copy of the letter was sent home with students. Students will be taking the survey as part of their Language Arts classes.
