Fern Ridge School District is committed to providing the safest possible environment for our students. Part of keeping students safe is keeping them prepared. Our district uses the acronym A.L.I.C.E. (Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate) as part of training our students on how to respond appropriately, in the very unlikely event of an armed intruder in one of our school buildings. In the same way that we practice for earthquakes and fires, schools practice what to do if there is an intruder on campus. This training encourages staff and students to respond based on the situation at that time. It teaches staff to guide students to consider all options- such as evacuating or barricading/sheltering rather than just locking the door.
Every year we review these procedures/protocols with students during their Homeroom class.
Our training for FRMS students this year will be Wednesday, February 23rd during Homeroom classes. During the training, staff will review with students the options available (evacuate, barricade, etc) and talk through how they might respond.
If you have any questions or concerns about your child participating in this training, we encourage you to contact the school office. You may also email our principal Ms. Johnson at ojohnson@fernridge.k12.or.us or our assistant principal Mr. Carman at ecarman@fernridge.k12.or.us. Printed copies of the presentation used by homeroom teachers will also be available for parents to review in the school office.
