In-class work; family tree project!

Throughout the week, we have been doing in-class assignments (math quiz with some of the bigger numbers we have learned in Spanish, vocabulary handout and tomorrow will be some end of the chapter activities).  Today was a project workday for your family tree project.  It can be about your actual family, you can make up your family (friends, celebrities, etc.) or a combination of both.  You need to write about yourself and eight others, but you are presenting about yourself and three others.  We went through the requirements again today (should be on a poster) and it is due on Tuesday, December 3rd.  If you are gone that day, make sure it gets turned in early or on that day by someone so it’s not considered late (since you have known about it since early November).  If you decide to write about more than 9, there is an opportunity for some bonus points (up to 10 extra points) or ensure a good grade on it (review the grammar with me and avoid using “Google translate” or other things because you need to stick to what we have learned–nothing in the PAST tense).  Keep working hard and make me proud with these projects and presentations on December 3rd!

H/O with the verb “tener;” work on family tree project

Today, we practiced with the vocabulary on p.93 (family terms and numbers).  Then we took notes on the verb “tener,” which you can find on p.78 in the book.  We practiced with some activities to describe people and what they have as well as how old people are.  Then, you received a handout to practice with the verb “tener,” which we will go over that side tomorrow.  It will be an important verb for your family tree project–your actual family or create your family with friends, celebrities, etc., which I would also recommend working on (you received a handout last week and it is due on the Tuesday you get back from Thanksgiving break–December 3rd).

p.93 vocabulario

Yesterday, I talked about the new vocabulary page and how it is due on Thursday.  It is on p.93 in the book and we will be doing a project for this chapter instead of a test as your assessment.

Unidad 1.2 test on Tuesday and Wednesday

Today, we took test notes over Unidad 1.2.  If you were absent today, make sure you get the test notes from someone before you enter class tomorrow to be best prepared.  We will do sections A-E tomorrow and F and G on Wednesday with sentence translations.  Start off the second quarter strong!

Unidad 1.2 test next week

The next few days we will be reviewing through activities and games as well as do a Day of the Dead activity on Thursday (since there is no school on Friday).  Next week will be your chapter test over Unidad 1.2 (keep practicing the vocabulary on p.69 and study/review your notes on articles and adjective agreement and placement).  This is a pretty short chapter, so another assessment is quickly upon us!

Handout–indefinite articles, translations and descriptions

Today, we talked about adjectives and how we write them differently compared to English.  We took notes and stressed the importance that you need to make adjectives agree in number and gender.  You then received a handout that is due on Monday (one side is listening, but you are also describing two people on that side–yourself and then someone of the opposite gender in a few good sentences).  We discussed the other side and went through one from each so you knew expectations for it.  We will do the listening activities and review the homework on Monday before turning it in.  Don’t forget that the quarter ends next week so I need any missing assignments/retakes completed by then. . . once second quarter starts, you will not be able to submit or retake the couple of assessments from first quarter.  Keep working hard!

p.57 activity 7

Today, we went through the “En Contexto” and five questions out of the book about yourself.  Then, we took notes on pages 56-57 (definite and indefinite articles) followed by tonight’s homework assignment.  It is on p.57 and it’s activity 7 (make sure you include both the definite and indefinite article. . . for example, #1 should be:  el/un vestido.  Complete your vocabulary on p.69 if you haven’t done so already.

In-class vocabulary handout and “Tengo” sheet; test notes for Unidad 1.1 (test on Tuesday and Thursday)

Today, we took the test notes for our second chapter test which will take place on Tuesday (sections A-C) and Thursday (sections D-H) this week.  If you were gone today, please make sure you get the test notes from someone so you can have them and best be prepared.  Then, you did a vocabulary handout during class (most finished and if you didn’t, it became homework). . . please turn it in at the beginning of class tomorrow.  You also received a “Tengo” sheet because after you finish the three sections on the test, we are playing “Tengo” or Bingo with our vocabulary words on p.47.  Please come prepared.

The verb “gustar” with practice/handout (due Monday)

Today, we went over the story in English about where Latinos in the United States come from and learned about the different characters/people who will appear in your textbook throughout Spanish 1 and 2.  Then, we practiced with subject pronouns and the verb “ser” again to start making that connection in Spanish of conjugating verbs (p.36 act.11).  We took notes on the verb “gustar” which you can find on p.39 in the textbook and practiced asking our peers on whether they like doing certain activities or not (based on the ones we are learning in the chapter).  Then, you received a handout (one side is completed during class on Monday and the other is your homework which is due on Monday).  We went over the first two activities today and will go over how to complete the third activity tomorrow.  We will also be spending some time conversing tomorrow on everything we have learned so far.  Keep working hard!
