p.36 activity 9 and p.38 activity 13

Today, we took notes and discussed subject pronouns in Spanish as well as English (based on p.35 in the book).  We included the verb “ser,” which means “to be” and broke down the verbs in their different forms (conjugation).  Then, we worked on the assignment which we will review tomorrow (some finished it during class, but if you did not, it became homework).  It is p.36 activity 9 and p.38 activity 13 out of the book (complete sentences).

Study/practice new vocabulary words–p.47; missing anything?

There is no written homework for Spanish this weekend.  However, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be practicing anything.  I highly recommend studying and learning your new words from p.47 and it’s always a good idea to go back and review past material.  If you are missing anything for this class, I hope to have it by Monday!

p.47 vocabulario

Today, you took your test.  If you are absent, please make sure to find a time when you can come in to complete it this week.  Your next vocabulary was assigned on p.47 (complete the same way we did our first one).  It is due at the beginning of class on Thursday.

Study Etapa Preliminar (first chapter)!

Throughout this week, we will be working on and wrapping up our very first chapter (communication activities and in-class assignments).  On Monday (September 23rd), you will have the numbers part of your assessment without notes (practice spelling out zero-ten in Spanish).  On Tuesday, you will take the rest of your assessment (test notes on Monday) which will be with notes (your vocabulary list, any homework assignments, handouts, etc.).  This week, you should focus on practicing the following:  introducing yourself, saying where you and others are from, numbers, days of the week and your vocabulary list on p.21).  Just because there is no written homework, there is always practice you should be doing at home to improve your Spanish skills!

p.9 activity 9; study vocabulary on p.21, alphabet, numbers, etc.

Today, I collected the vocabulary list on p.21 (worth 15 points).  Then, we reviewed items we have learned already (alphabet, numbers, spelling words, etc.).  You were introduced to Spanish-speaking countries today and we practiced the phrases for asking, “Where are you from?; Where is he/she from?” as well as responses (Soy de. . . Es de. . . ).  The homework assignment is on p.9 activity 9 out of the book.  We did the first two together and most completed it during class; however, I changed it up a little bit, so it should start off with “Me llamo_________.” or “Mi nombre es __________.” filled in with a Spanish-speaking name (refer to the list on p.4) and the second sentence should be “Soy de_________” and matching up the correct South American country for each number (refer to pages 6-7 to look at a corresponding map).  We will review this on Monday.  Study your vocabulary on p.21 (along with alphabet, numbers, etc.)!

p.21 vocabulary due Friday!

Today, we talked about how to do the vocabulary (Spanish in one column and English in the other) on p.21 and started it at the end of class.  You can add pictures and color to it (at least four total) to receive a couple of bonus points.  It is due at the beginning of class on Friday, the 13th!  Keep practicing the alphabet and numbers too!

Free write due Monday!

On Thursday, you received a couple of handouts on “Why Study Another Language?” and “The Pain of Pluralism.”  It was very interesting to see how hard English truly is and thinking about someone else learning it for the first time.  Your homework this weekend is to write a free write (in paragraph or bullet point form) in English on the reasons you are taking this class (Spanish) and why you think it’s important to study another language (hopefully you do)/reflecting on how English is hard to learn–different perspective.  We will discuss on Monday and begin our final version during class (will be getting our textbooks as well).  Your poster and presentation will be on Tuesday, September 10th.
