         Canned Food Drive

At Veneta Elementary School the holiday season is a time of sharing and caring as we work to support two very important causes in our community- the Kiwanis Canned Food Drive and the S.A.N.T.A. Project

Veneta Elementary students will be participating in the annual Kiwanis Canned Food Drive. Students can bring in canned food and nonperishable food items from now through December 16th.  The food will be distributed to local families in need. The class that brings in the most food by weight will win a prize. Over the last five years, in order to continue the spirit of giving classes have donated their prize to local charities like Greenhill Humane Society and Mid-Lane Cares. Continue reading

Exciting News!!!!  On Monday, November 23rd and Tuesday November 24th they will be installing our long awaited new glass main doors. This means during parent conferences we will not be able to use the main entrance to the school. Parents coming for their parent conference or to visit the book fair will have to use the old entrance on those two days. If you need to stop by the office, you can enter the office through the staff room just like we did in September. Thanks for your cooperation.

As you know, schools have long had safety protocols in place to help students and staff members respond to natural emergencies like fires or earthquakes. This year the Fern Ridge School District has adopted a new safety protocol to help students and staff at each school be prepared to respond in case of a man made threat. In August, staff members were trained in a program called ALICE which is designed to help schools, colleges, and other institutions respond in the event of a man made threat.

ALICE (the acronym stands for Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, and Evacuate) has been adopted across Lane County and even throughout the nation as a system for training teachers and students. It has the support of law enforcement including the Lane County Sheriff.  ALICE training focuses on helping individuals plan in advance what they can do to stay safe. Alice isn’t a prescribed set of instructions but teaches the individual to assess the situation and make the best choice- whether that choice is to evacuate or barricade. Continue reading

Our School Book Fair is coming in just a few weeks. Our School Book Fair is a great opportunity to purchase books for your family or as gifts.             Teeth Color

On Tuesday, November 3rd we will be conducting vision and dental screenings of all students. The vision screenings will be conducted by the Lions Club with the help of parent volunteers. The dental screenings will be conducted by staff from the dental program offered through Lane County Community Health Centers. In addition to the screening, we will also be doing the dental sealants for those students whose parents returned the signed permission slips. Both the vision and the dental screening are noninvasive and take just a few minutes. Parents will be notified if there are any concerns noted.

Our vision, dental, and hearing screenings are part of our effort to have safe and healthy students who are ready to learn. However, we want to remind parents that a vision screening or a dental screening does not and should not replace regular exams. Parents can opt out of the screening with a written note to the office.

Thank you to our local Lions Club for their help and assistance.
