After seeing how excited all of our students are about our first dance in two years, we have decided to celebrate our students and that excitement by making the FRMS Spring Fling on May 20th free to all FRMS and FRSD Options 6th thru 8th grade students. That’s right- no admission needed.

Leadership will still be selling candy, water, and chips as a fundraiser. All refreshments will be $1. There will also be an open gym for students who want to play basketball or other games.

Our “Spring Fling” Dance will be Friday, May 20th from 6:30 to 8:00 PM.

Students who do not attend all of their classes on May 20th will not be able to attend the dance. This includes students who are late to school, suspended from class, or are checked out early.

If your student has an appointment on the 20th that they have to keep, call and talk to Ms. Johnson or Mr. Carman by the 19th to request an exemption to the attendance rule.

Only FRMS and FRSD Options students will be admitted to the dance. Students who are homeschooled, attend online schools other than FRSD Options, attend other public schools, or attend private schools will not be admitted.

School rules, expectations, and dress code still apply during the school dance. Students who are not following school rules, expectations, or our dress code may have their parent called and be asked to leave the dance.

Just an update for 8th grade families:

  1. Promotion Slideshow– For our slideshow this year, we are asking families to share pictures of their 8th grade student that reveal their personality and/or interests. For example if your 8th grader has a pet that they adore, a picture of them with the pet would be great. If they have a hobby or an interest like horseback riding or painting or gardening, a picture of them involved in that hobby would also work fine. The only caveat is that we would like them to be front and center in that picture so we can see their smiling faces…. pictures of them at a distance or when they are part of a group won’t work. Pictures should be emailed to Marian French by June 2nd. Her email is mfrench@fernridge.k12.or.us
  2. Promotion Ceremony- Families are invited to join us at 6:30 on Tuesday, June 14th for a promotion ceremony. In addition to celebrating all of our 8th graders, we will be recognizing individual student achievements.
  3. 8th Grade students will have a full day field trip on the 14th. They will leave school by 8:45 for a celebration at the park followed by a pool party complete with a DJ and music. 8th grade parents have planned a lot of activities for the park and the pool. Thank you to the 8th grade parents, led by Jani Patrick, who are working hard to make the park and pool party fun for all of our 8th grade students.
  4. There will be no dance this year. 8th grade students were given the opportunity to choose their promotion activity and chose the pool/park party instead.
  5. If your 8th grade student attends FRSD OPTIONS, please contact the school to let us know if you want them included in the field trip or the promotion ceremony or both. These events are for current 8th grade FRMS and  8th grade FRSD OPTIONS students only.
  6. 8th graders will have their yearbook signing on the 14th. There are a small number of yearbooks still available for sale in the office.
  7. Participation in the 8th grade field trip is a privilege. Students whose behavior does not meet expectations in the weeks before the field trip, may be excluded from the field trip to the park and the pool June 14th.
  8. The last day of school for 8th grade students is June 14th. 8th graders do not come to school June 15th-17th.
  9. 8th grade students and their families are invited to EHS Fly-Up Night on Tuesday, May 31st from 6 to 7:30 PM. This will be a great opportunity for families to meet high school staff and learn more about what high school life will be like.

In honor of Teacher Appreciation Week May 2nd to May 6th, we want to take a moment and celebrate and thank our wonderful teachers for all that they do day in and day out for our students.

We especially want to thank them for the incredible amount of flexibility, perseverance, and dedication they have showed this year. In a year that was filled with challenges, our teachers met each and every one and put students and student safety first every step of the way. Thank you FRMS teachers for being simply amazing.

Save The Date:  This Saturday, April 30th, Women in Flight out of the University of Oregon is inviting families to join staff and student-athletes for a day of fun, play, and community. Our Staff Vs Student Basketball Game was a total blast! We had lots of fun! Whether it was the basketball game, the dodgeball game, the three point shots, the raffles, or the egg breaking the event was filled with cheers, laughter, and just having fun together as a school community. Plus we raised $2420 for student activities! Thank you so much to all of our students and their families who came last night.

A special thank you to the FRMS Choir for a beautiful rendition of the national anthem; to the 8th grade boys and girls who played in the basketball game; to all of the students who lead the cheers; to the leadership students who organized, planned, helped run the event, and stayed to clean up after; to FRMS staff who were awesome as usual helping in a multitude of ways; to Lisa Leatham and Michelle Marshall for coaching; to Ian Cooper and Brad Davis for being our referees; to Callie Johnson for collecting donations from the crowd; and to Gary Carpenter for announcing.

Thank you also to our community and parent volunteers: Maya Trout, Sam Yliz, Frank Pew, Sarah Inman, and Kingston.

Thank you to Maya Trout for donating the trophy, Candy Christiance for donating the pom poms, and Korbin  Graham-Doolin for donating the sword.

Thank you also to the EHS welding class for their great work on the plaque and sword for our “crowning” ceremony.

Thank you to the following businesses for their support: Grocery Outlet, The Frost Queen, Our Daily Bakery, Dairy Queen, Ray’s, Winco, Sweet Life and Wal Mart.

However the biggest thanks of all go to Jacob Newman and Heather Hohnstein who led the charge to make this event happen. Their planning and hardwork over the last few months definitely paid off last night.

FRMS Staff are in the midst of planning for our 2022 Summer Program for students. Our plan is to offer a summer learning program from July 11th to August 4th, 9:30 AM to 1:00 PM for current 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students. Students would split their day between language arts enrichment, math enrichment, and a fun activity class. To help us with planning, if you are interested in having your child attend our summer program please take a few minutes to fill out this survey.
Enrollment in the summer learning program is limited and on a first come, first served basis. Filling out this survey indicates interest, but it doesn’t commit your child to attending or guarantee that your child has a spot.  It does really help us with planning.

Thank you for taking this survey.

Congratulations to “That One Team” also known as Kiara Vandever, Thad Mason, Phoenix Remior, Morgynne Dodds, and Spencer Stone as they represent Fern Ridge Middle School at the Oregon Battle of the Books Regional Competition this Saturday, April 9th. As a team, they will be asked tough and detailed questions about sixteen different books. They’ve worked hard over the last few months to get ready to battle other schools this weekend.

We are very proud of each of them and we know that they will do their very best on Saturday. We also want to acknowledge the hard work of their two coaches, Sherry Cooper and Marian French.

Congrats and Good Luck to “That One Team!” Have fun and enjoy your day!
