Just a reminder to students and families that the end of third quarter is next Thursday, April 7th. That makes now a good time for students or families to check in with teachers about any missing assignments that need to be turned in before the quarter ends. Families can check Schoology or contact teachers if they have questions about how their student is doing in a class or classes.

We also want to remind families that we now have homework help available after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the FRMS library. If students need extra help with homework or a quiet place to do their work or access to chromebooks for an assignment, we can provide all of that along with snacks and breaks. Homework help goes from after school till 5 PM. No transportation is provided so students need to be picked up at 5 PM. Families can sign their student up for one session or multiple sessions by calling the office at 541-935-8230.

Also a reminder to all families that Friday, April 8th is a grading day for teachers and a day off for students.

FRMS Parent Group will meet Thursday, March 31st at 6:30 PM in the FRMS Library. Agenda will include designs for the new T-Shirts, 8th grade promotion activities, yearbook update, and summer school update.

FRMS will hold their annual Staff vs Student Basketball game fundraiser on April 14th. Doors open at 5 PM and  the game starts at 5:30 PM. The cost is $3 per an adult, $2 per child, and free to current FRMS students. Half time events will include parent vs child dodgeball, three point contest, and an egg smash. Concessions will be sold. Prizes will be up raffled as well. See the flyer below for more information and see you on April 14th.

Beginning after Spring Break, FRMS will be offering a homework help/tutoring assistance after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:10 to 5:00 in the school library. This is a great opportunity for students who need a quiet place and some assistance to complete their homework or need extra help in a class. Students must attend the entire time and parents are responsible for picking up their student at 5 PM. Students will have breaks and snacks will be provided.books and an apple

There will be a limited number of slots for each session and available on a first come, first served basis. If you want your student to attend, either send a note to the office or call the office to sign up for an individual homework help session. Sessions are Tuesdays and Thursdays, so specify the day and date that your student will be attending. If you want your student to attend more than one session, please indicate that when you call or write.

We recognize that signing up by individual session isn’t the most convenient option, but it allows the group to have fluidity as we know there will be times when your student needs the help with their homework and times when they won’t. Thank you for your flexibiliy.

If a session is filled, you will be notified and your student will go home as normal. Because each session will have only one staff member supervising, we will need to cap each session at 15 students. Mrs. Lloyd will be the supervisor on Tuesdays and Mr. Newman will be the supervisor on Thursdays.

In addition to homework help and tutoring, beginning April 4th Ms. Miller will be available on Tuesdays from 3:10 to 5:00 to help band students who need to practice their instruments or choir students who want additional coaching. Please contact Ms. Miller directly if you would like your band or choir student to take advantage of that opportunity.

This is a brand new program for FRMS so we appreciate your flexibility and support as we work to make it a success and a valuable resource for our students. If you have questions or concerns give us a call at 541-935-8230

As we continue forward this school year, it is already time to start thinking about planning activities and finalizing budgets for next year!

We are asking for our families, staff, and community members to share their input and ideas so that we can build on our past engagement efforts.

Your input helps to guide the planning, direction, and priorities for using Student Investment Account funds.  We will also use this data to make sure our goals are aligned and that we are hearing  perspectives from multiple stakeholders.

Student input surveys will be taking place later this spring. This will most likely happen in grades 6-12th and be available during school day.

Stay tuned— Over the next couple of weeks, the district will prepare its plan for the funds, and share with stakeholders. Continue to check the website for updates!

Please take a few moments to complete the survey below by April 15th:

Thank you so much and we appreciate your time!

Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions, concerns, or would like more follow-up information.

FRMS is happy to announce that our parent conferences on March 17th will be in person. Conferences will be held “arena style” which means no appointment is needed. Teachers will be stationed in the gym and in the commons to meet with parents. Conferences will be from 4 PM to 8 PM on the 17th only.

Progress Reports will be mailed home this week. Families can also check grades in Schoology.

Lost and found will be available during conferences for families to check. Items left in Lost and Found will be donated to Lilies of the Field on Friday, March 18th. There is no school on Friday, March 18th.

Classified Staff Appreciation Week: This week (March 7th through March 11th) is our time to celebrate, thank, and honor our amazing classified staff. These are the individuals that do the hard work that ensures our students are safe and help to support student learning. Whether  supervising the Commons at lunch, helping to screen students as they enter, working with individual students in the classroom, or keeping our library running we could not operate without our classified support staff. A huge thank you to each and everyone of them,  with the challenges that this year has brought, we have relied on our classified staff more than ever to keep students safe, keep students learning, and keep our school going.

Thank you!!! We really couldn’t do it without you!!

This is a reminder to all families that the items in our lost and found will be given to charity on March 18th. Please encourage your FRMS student to look through the lost and found for any lost pieces of clothing, backpacks, water bottles, etc before they leave for Spring Break. In addition to the larger items in the vestibule, we have smaller items (watches, jewelry, etc) in the office. All they need to do is describe the item to Shelby and she will check if it is there.

All items get donated to charity on March 18th.

Contact the school office at 541-935-8230 if  you have any questions. Thank you.

Fern Ridge School District is committed to providing the safest possible environment for our students. Part of keeping students safe is keeping them prepared. Our district uses the acronym A.L.I.C.E.  (Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate) as part of training our students on how to respond appropriately, in the very unlikely event of an armed intruder in one of our school buildings. In the same way that we practice for earthquakes and fires, schools  practice what to do if there is an intruder on campus.  This training encourages staff and students to respond based on the situation at that time. It teaches staff to guide students to consider all options- such as evacuating or barricading/sheltering rather than just locking the door.

Every year we review these procedures/protocols with students during their Homeroom class.

Our  training for FRMS students this year will be Wednesday, February 23rd during Homeroom classes. During the training, staff will review with students the options available (evacuate, barricade, etc) and talk through how they might respond.

If you have any questions or concerns about your child participating in this training, we encourage you to contact the school office. You may also email our principal Ms. Johnson at ojohnson@fernridge.k12.or.us or our assistant principal Mr. Carman at ecarman@fernridge.k12.or.us. Printed copies of the presentation used by homeroom teachers will also be available for parents to review in the school office.

Some tips if your child is struggling with accessing Schoology at home:

  1. Make sure that they  are using a Chrome browser.
  2. Make sure that they are logging into the browser with their student Google profile. There are two icons in the upper right corner. They need to make sure that the smaller one at the very top shows the first initial of their first name and to turn on “sync’ing.  Click HERE for more detailed directions on how to do this.
  3.  When they sign in to Google have them use their entire school email address. This would be their initials, their student id address and @student.oregonk-12.com. For example student John Doe with an ID # 12345 would have a student email of JD12345@student.oregonk-12.com
