FRMS will use a Hybrid Model to address student and staff safety concerns.  Once we get the go ahead to return students to the building, students will be attending school two days a week (Tuesday /Thursday or Wednesday/Friday.) This will allow us to have practice safety measures like social distancing and face masks with smaller class sizes and fewer students in the building. Unfortunately, we can’t return students to the building until the state says that we can. So we will continue in Distance Learning until the metrics set by Governor Brown allow us to return students to the building.  Click here for the most current updates from the district.

In the meantime, we wanted to give you some information about what FRMS Hybrid Distance Learning will look like.

  1. Distance Learning this fall will look nothing like it did in the Spring. Students will take five classes (LA, Math, Science, Social Studies, and P.E.). They will interact with teachers via Zoom every day- they will also have opportunities to interact and learn from each other. Distance learning via Zoom is going to be a lot like a regular classroom- during one class period there may be time that the teacher lectures, time for class discussions, time for partner or small group work, time for independent work, time to ask questions or get help, time to read or watch a video, time to get started homework, etc.
  2. Student schedules will  look like a regular schedule with 45 minute periods and at least ten minutes between classes. They will have the same classes and teachers when they return to onsite learning  to make the transition easier.
  3. There will be grades- not just the Pass/No Pass we had last spring.
  4. Teachers will be recording and posting their Zoom classes for students to access later if they miss a class or need to hear the instruction again.
  5. We have scheduled a 90  minute block in between third and fourth period. We want students to have a chance to relax, help their family with lunch, take a break, go outside, play, start their homework, etc. We are also planning some optional online activities via Zoom that they can participate in like a virtual assembly or a virtual recess so they hang out with their friends.
  6. Teacher Office Hours- Teachers will also be available to help individual students through Zoom before school and after school.
  7.  FRSD is working to help students without the internet access distance learning. Stay tuned to hear more.
  8. Chromebooks will be available to check out for those students who took the online Tech Survey and indicated they have a need. The survey is still up through August 21st. Call the school if you missed the survey.
