Families with students entering kindergarten in the fall are encouraged to enroll them in our KITS program that begins July 5th. KITS is a preschool type program that teaches children the academic, social, and emotional skills needed for Kindergarten and helps parents learn how to support their child in the school setting.

Students will attend ”school” Tuesdays and Thursdays July 5th to August 26th for two hours a day. There will be a morning session 9 to 11 and afternoon session 12:00 to 2:00. Times might be adjusted slightly.  After school starts, sessions continue just one day a week afterschool or on a Saturday in September and October to help students make the transition into kindergarten. Times and dates for the fall have yet to be finalized. There is also a parent group  to help parents learn from each other strategies for supporting their child in school. The parent group meets once a week during the summer and once every two weeks after school starts in September. Parent group takes place at the same time as the student group is in session and free child care is provided for children not in the KITS program.

There is no charge for the program and transportation will be provided. The KITS program is open to students who will be attending kindergarten at either Veneta or Elmira Elementary school this fall. For more information about the KITS program contact Angie Trent or Olivia Johnson at 541-935-8225 or stop by to pick up a registration packet. You can also find out information about KITS on their website kidsintransitiontoschool.org The Fern Ridge School District KITS program is made possible by a grant from the Social Improvement Fund and the United Way.
