Hip Hop, Hook’s Revenge, and other updates!

Friday, January 20th will be our Hip Hop Dress Up Day. Students can have fun dressing up, but please remember that the school dress code applies. The complete dress code is included in your VES Family Handbook, which is a link on the right side of this post.

Hook’s Revenge– Hook’s Revenge by Heidi Schulz is a fun and adventure filled kid’s book and one of the books selected for this year’s OBOB contest. Author Heidi Schulz will be at the Eugene Public Library on January 26th at 4 PM. She will be presenting on Hook’s Revenge and answering questions. The presentation is free and open to the public. PALS- Don’t forget that our PALS meeting was changed from last Tuesday to Wednesday, January 18th at 6:30 PM. Childcare will be provided. Come and be a part of making Veneta Elementary a great place to learn and grow.

Parent Drop Off– You may have noticed that we have a slight change to our parent drop off lane. We are still asking that parents pull forward to the drop-off sign, but now both the first and the second car in line can drop off their students. We are working with the district to put up a second sign so that both drop off points will be clearly marked. For now, please only drop off students if you are the vehicle at the sign or the next vehicle in line. We ask that you not drop off your child earlier in the line because its very likely that  the line of cars behind you will back up to Territorial and traffic will get congested. Pulling up and using all of the drop off lane helps keep the entrance to the parking lot and the turn off into the parking lot from getting crowded and  crazy. We appreciate your support.

Bus Passes– Just a reminder that if you are calling to change your child’s afterschool plans, please call as early as you can and well before 2:00. Our bus passes and notes to students are taken to the classrooms at 2:00. If you call after that, not only do we have to disrupt the classroom to pass on the information, there is a chance that we might not get the information to your child before they get on the bus or before they start walking home. Also a reminder that we have to hear from parents about afterschool changes, we can’t put a child on a different bus or allow someone else to pick them up without hearing from the parent.

Calendar Changes– The school board will be meeting on Tuesday, January 17th. They will be looking at making some changes to the school calendar as a result of the school closures earlier this month and last. Whatever the decide to change, we will send home a new calendar, post the information on the website, and send out a text alert with that updated information.

Auction Save The Date– Veneta Elementary’s Annual Auction will be Saturday, April 8th. Please save that date on your calendar. We are also accepting donations of goods and services for the auction. Every dollar raised in the auction helps to support field trips, assemblies, field day, music instruction, and other great stuff for our school.
