OBOB 2015The 2014-15 Oregon Battle of the Books is about to begin. Participants will form teams of four and read 16 books from well known and well respected authors including Judy Blune, Gordon Korman, Kate DiCamillo, and Roland Smith. They will then participate in “Battles” where they must answers about the content of each book. OBOB is a lot of fun for third through fifth grade students but it is also a big commitment to make. OBOB team members must read at least 6 of the 16 books between now and mid-January. Books can be checked out from the VES library or from the Fern Ridge Community Library. Books can also be purchase

We are also seeking parent and community volunteers who would be interested in coaching an OBOB team. Each team needs their own coach/mentor. Coach/Mentors will meet with the teams two or three times between over November and December to check in with students, make sure everyone is reading their assigned books, and in general keeping kids on track.

In January, teams will participate in at least two practice battles before the official school Oregon Battle of the Books contest. The team that wins the school Battle, will go on to the Regional competition.

Applications are due by October 26th. Please click on the link below or click on OBOB page on the right side column for the guidelines, book lists, and application.
