April Brings Many Special Events to VES

April will be a busy month here at Veneta Elementary School. We have lots of fun, important, and interesting things coming up this month. Please follow the jump for more details about these events and mark them down in your calendars!

April 2nd: Yearbook Orders Due.  Thank you again to Hilary Ramsey for the hard work she puts into the yearbook.

April 4th: City of Veneta Easter Egg Hunt here at Veneta Elementary School. The event begins with story time at 10:15 with the hunt itself starting at 11:00 AM.

April 6th: Raffle Sales Contest Ends. The grand prize for the raffle is a 40 inch Samsung Smart TV. The second prize is a $300 gift card to Winco. Kids can earn great prizes for themselves, their class, and the school for selling raffle tickets. Tickets are $1 each, $5 for 6, $10 for 13, or $20 for 30. Raffle winners will be drawn and announced during Bingo/Silent Auction Fundraiser on April 11th.

April 9th: Outdoor School Parent Meeting 6:30 to 7:30- This is a meeting to provide information to fifth grade parents about our Outdoor School Program. Outdoor School Directors will be there to answer any and all questions parents might have about this great program.

April 11th: PALS Bingo Night/Silent Auction Fundraiser– This is our big annual fundraiser this year. Instead of our traditional auction, this year we are doing something a little bit different that we hope families will enjoy and support. We are holding a Bingo Night along with a Silent Auction. There will be ten games of bingo with fabulous prizes ready to be won at a cost of $15 per a person. Additional cards and daubers will be available to purchase. The silent auction will feature class art projects as well as other great items that have been donated. Refreshments will be sold and the VES Choir is scheduled to perform. Children are definitely welcome but no separate childcare will be provided. Funds from this event will be used to provide music/art programs as well as field trips, outdoor school, assemblies, and more. Please come, have fun, and support our school!

April 21st: Family Math Night. Math is one of the most important and challenging skills for students to learn. Our goal is to show parents and children that they can make math not only fun, but part of their everyday lives. There will be math games to make and take, chances to win prizes, and find great math websites and apps for your computer or tablet. . Lots of resources and information on how to help all children succeed in math. Veneta Elementary School 6:15 to 7:30.  Everyone is welcome.

April 24th: Fourth Annual Earth Day Fair – The City of Veneta Park Board and Veneta Elementary School are proud to invite parents, families, and community members to their fourth annual Earth Day Fair on Friday, April 24th from 12:15 to 2:00. The event will feature booths from Lane Electric, Sanipac, Zany Zoo, Smoky The Bear, Farmer’s Market, and more. In this hands on event children will visit booths and learn about trees, animals, seed planting, recycling, bees, composting, geology, and much more. Families in the Veneta area with children not in school are invited to come by. Classes will be visiting the Earth Day Fair on the following schedule:

12:00 to 12:40             Modee /Guill/Lawrence

12:40 to 1:20               Cutsforth /Llewellyn/Orme

1:20 to 2:00                 Messman/Pebworth/Greene

Please Note: Special classroom events are planned for fourth and fifth grade students that day. Due to space limitations, we can’t accommodate all grades in our Earth Day Fair. However next year, due to the generosity of voters and with a new cafeteria, we will be able to invite all grade levels to  participate in this amazing event.

Towards the end of April: They will start preparing VES for construction set to begin in May. Parents will notice temporary fencing going up on the north side of the school where the new building will be put up. Watch this space carefully for more details about the ground breaking ceremony!!!!
