FAFSA Completion Night event next Wednesday, February 21
EHS parents and guardians,
We are excited to offer a FAFSA completion night next Wednesday, February 21. Nomi Pierce, an Access Specialist with the Oregon OSAC office will be on hand to work individually with parents/ guardians completing their FAFSA for seniors applying for financial aid to help pay for college, trade schools, and other post-high school educational opportunities. This is a drop-in event, for individualized help- doors open at 5:30, and it ends at 7:30. So, ideally arrive on the earlier side, by 7 at the latest, to be able to get help and hopefully a FAFSA completed and submitted! Get help with other aid-related applications too.
To get the most of the session, you are advised to apply for what’s called an FSA ID ahead of time. This takes just a few minutes, but then can take several days to be issued, and you need it to move on to the FAFSA application.
Both a parent/ guardian and a student need their own FSA ID in order to complete a FAFSA application (so both are encouraged to attend our event). Go here to set up an FSA ID:
What- FAFSA Completion Help Session
Where- EHS, Room 39 computer lab (easiest to access from back parking lot)
When- Wednesday, February 21, 5:30-7:30 (arrive by 7 at the latest)
What to bring:
-Your Social Security Number (not needed if you set up your FSA ID ahead of time)
-2022 tax information (not 2023)
– Financial information (checking, savings, other accounts)
For more information about what the FAFSA is all about, go here:
https://studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa
A FAFSA application can be typically completed in under 30 minutes, but as outlined above, there are multiple steps involved, and unique circumstances that need individual attention (students who don’t live with a parent/ guardian, a parent/ guardian or student who does not have a social security number are two examples). We do not want anything to get in the way of students receiving aid they are eligible for, so please reach out to your student’s counselor ahead of time with any questions.
Also on Wednesday, 2/21, we’ll be setting up a scholarship help session from 9:30-2:00 for seniors to drop in and work on OSAC, Oregon Promise, Lane Foundation (for LCC-bound students), and other local scholarships they may be working on. Info about this has been given to seniors- encourage them to attend at a time that works for them!Brittany McMillan (last names A-K)
Court Wirth (last names L-Z)
