COSMIC BOWLING: This Friday, Feb 12th, is one of the first major “Falcon Competition” fundraisers. It is held at Firs Bowl on River Road in Eugene. The cost is only $10.00! Your $10.00 gets you in, your shoe rental, and all of the cosmic bowling you can do from 9:30-Midnight. In addition, for those interested, there is a FREE bus leaving the EHS Parking lot. The bus will depart EHS approximately 5 minutes after the end of the Varsity Boys Basketball Game and its expected return time is 12:30. In order to ride the bus, you have to have signed up in the office, turned in a permission slip, and paid your $10.00. Permission slips are available in the front office. So parents, if you want to get rid of your students for about 8 hours Friday night….send them to the home Basketball game vs. Sutherlin and then off to Cosmic Bowling! If you have questions, feel free to call the school. Go Falcons!

The week of Feb 1st-5th is National School Counseling Week.  A big thank-you to our EHS counselor, Mrs. Meagan Haas, for the great job she does each day for the students and families at EHS!

The State released Graduation Rate Data today, and EHS did fantastic.  Big kudos to not only the EHS staff, but to all staff in the FRSD K-12 that play a role in graduating students.  As usual, the article that runs in the Register Guard on this topic (as it did today), can be confusing.  The RG breaks out the 4-year Cohort Graduation Rate data by school for the larger districts (Churchill, Sheldon, Springfield, etc…).  However, for smaller Districts they often just list the rate for the entire District.  The rate for the FRSD (that takes into account all High Schools in the District) was 71.6% for the 4-year cohort rate, while the state average was 73.8%.  However, the 4-year Cohort Graduation Rate for EHS was 89.83%.  The only High School in Lane County that is our size or larger (4A) that I am aware of that beat that, was South Eugene High School at 90.82%.  Way to go Falcons!

You can see all of the state graduation rate data at the following link:  http://www.ode.state.or.us/search/page/?id=2644

Due to a problem at the bus barn this morning, route 11 for EES and EHS is running 25 minutes late. Please pass along. 1-19-16.

Police incident on Jeans Rd.  Buses will not be travelling between Cornerstone and Jeans Rd. (Tuesday Morning 12-15-15)

This is a reminder that every Tuesday and Thursday, EHS teachers volunteer to staff a “Homework Club” in the library from 3:30-4:30. Lately, not many students have been taking advantage of this time to get additional teacher support or simply study on their own. Computers are available for use as well. Unfortunately, there is no bus available for homework club. If you think Homework Club is something that would be valuable for your student, please encourage them to attend. If our attendance continues to be poor, this great opportunity for our students may be something our staff looks at needing to change in the future.  Go Falcons!

Falcon Pageant 2016: Applicatons are now available for the annual “Falcon Pageant.” Unlike in past years when we have had a Mr. Falcon Pageant, or a Miss. Falcon pageant (like ocurred in 2014). This years Pageant will be open to ALL seniors. Any student can apply for any position. The EHS Leadership students and staff voted on making this change. The change will not only increase our pool of potential contestants thus allowing us to raise more money, have a better show and maintain high standards both acadmically and behaviorally for contestants, but also foster a sense of inclusion for all students. Mark the date on your calendar. The Falcon Pageant 2016 is scheduled for April 8th, 2016 at 7:00 PM in the EHS gym.

This year your students will have the opportunity to take the new SAT! Launching in March, it focuses on the classroom skills and knowledge research shows are essential for college. Along with the redesigned PSAT our sophomores and juniors took in October, these tightly aligned tests, along with new practice resources like Official SAT Practice on Kahn Academy, work together to support students in furthering college readiness and helping students everywhere to achieve their personal best.

We know many of you have questions about the new SAT, please feel free to reach Mrs. Haas in the EHS Counseling Center or go online to sat.org/new
