Our Annual EHS Junior Night event is coming up on Thursday, May 7th at 6:00 p.m. in the EHS theater. This is an event for both parent and student. We will cover a wide range of important information for Juniors as they plan for graduation and life after high school! Parents are strongly encouraged to join to gain greater insight into what role you can take and know how best to support your student for their next steps. The agenda will include a presentation on navigating post-secondary options and planning for college hosted by Mrs. Haas, EHS School Counselor, followed by some general senior year information shared by Mr. Carpenter. We hope you can make it and get a head start on senior year for the graduating class of 2016!

Next Wednesday November 12th, EHS will be holding its annual College Fair in the cafeteria from 6-8 PM.  Attendance is required for all EHS Seniors as a part of their senior project, however all Juniors are welcome to attend as well.  The raffle prize for this years event is an I-pad mini and a $50 Target gift card.  We hope to see many of your there.  Thanks to Mrs. Haas and Mrs. Vincent for their work in planning this event.

Questions? Contact Mrs. Haas, School Counselor

college.aheadIf you haven’t had a chance to visit the webpage of our school counselor, Mrs. Meagan Haas, please do so. This is a great spot to get information.  For example, recently (on March 5th) she posted a link on her College and Career Center page, that gives information about the upcoming changes to the SAT that will take place beginning in 2016.  This “Counselor Page” should be a good resource to students and families, especially Junior’s and Seniors that are planning to go to College.  Feel free to email Meagan directly at mhaas@fernridge.k12.or.us if you have questions or suggestions for this page.

APThe Elmira High School Counseling Center is looking for a volunteer to assist in proctoring this year’s AP Testing.  Testing dates and times won’t be confirmed until March 7, 2014, but will fall within the weeks of Monday, May 5, 2014 to Friday, May 14, 2014 from 8 a.m. until 12 p.m.  Training will be available.  Please contact Meagan Haas, School Counselor of Elmira High School for details and questions at 541-935-8200 ext. 313.

It is never to early to begin thinking about post-secondary education (College) if this is an option you and your student want to pursue.  Some good tips and information can be found under the College and Career Center link on the right side of this page.  Our school counselor, Mrs. Meagan Haas, has made available college “checklists” for each grade level, 9-12, for students and parents to use in regards to staying “on-track.”
