Just a reminder to FRMS families that we have parent conferences tonight (10-13-22) from 4 PM to 8 PM. They will be “Arena” style and no appointment is needed. We will also have copies of your child’s progress reports to hand out.
In addition, we will be selling School Spirit T-Shirts for $10 each tonight. Profits from the T-Shirts go towards supporting activities for our student body including dances, student store, promotion, and more.
Schoology Help Desk!!!- Tonight during parent conferences we will have staff on hand to help answer your Schoology questions- whether its how to log in, what your code is, how to access your student’s information, etc… Stop by the Schoology Help Desk during parent conferences for the answers to your questions about this important program. If you have never accessed Schoology, make a point of stopping by and picking up the information on how to do so. Schoology can give you access to your child’s grades, missing work, attendance, etc.
If you miss conferences tonight, teachers will be available for conferences tomorrow morning from 8 AM to Noon. You are also welcome to contact teachers directly anytime you have a question or concern. Click on the link below for a list of extensions and emails.
FRMS Students will be taking part in vision and dental screenings on Tuesday, October 18th. Members of the Lions Club will be conducting vision screenings and qualified staff from Lane County Health will be doing the dental screenings. The screenings will take just a few minutes and families will be notified if the results of either screening indicate a need for follow up care. Neither screening is invasive- a quick eye check/exam for the vision screening and a quick look at the mouth/teeth for the dental screening.
Families who want to opt their child out of one or both screenings should fill out the Opt Out form (linked below) and return it to the office.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact the school office.
While it seems like school just started, we are already planning for parent conferences on Thursday, October 13th and Friday, October 14th. For families new to FRMS, this post explains what conferences look like at the middle school level.
Thursday, October 13th 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Arena Style. Arena style means no appointment needed. All teachers will be in the gym. Families will first pick up their Mid Term Progress Reports. They will then get in line for the teachers they want to see. Families may need to wait in line to see some teachers. We will have chairs out for families to sit in while they wait. We ask that families be courteous and give the family having their conference privacy by keeping a distance from the front of the line to where the teacher will be.
Friday, October 14th 8:00 AM to Noon. These are the more traditional by appointment conferences. Teachers will be available in their classrooms. Families can contact the teachers directly to set up an appointment or make an appointment through Shelby or Casey in the office.
As a reminder, there will be no school on Friday, October 14th due to parent conferences. However there will be school on Thursday, October 13th.

Back Row: Elle Flores, Mattison Frank.
Absent: Ruby Devine
Today we want to celebrate the students in Mr. Ryan Brummett’s classroom. These enterprising students have brought back the FRMS News Show. With Mattison Frank and Ruby Devine as anchors, this news program features Jasper Johnson’s weather report, Ozzie Flores’ Sports Update, and Ava Swope’s lunch report. Elle Flores and Alex Spindola round out the crew. They plan to put out a weekly news video for all of our FRMS students to watch each Monday. Their pilot episode, see the link below, was a rousing success. Thank you to these amazing students and their awesome teacher. A thank you also to the wonderful Katy Miller for helping out behind and in front of the camera.

Fern Ridge Middle School will be holding our Open House on Thursday, September 29th from 6:30 to 8:00 PM. We are excited at the opportunity to welcome families into our building. This year we are doing something different. We want to give all of our families a chance to meet all of their child’s teachers by following their child’s schedule going from class to class.. To allow more time in the classes that are core academic subjects (Social Studies, Math, Language Arts, P.E., Science) we are starting with second period and skipping the first period exploratory classes.
6:15 Doors open for parents who need to pick up a copy of their child’s schedule. Classrooms are closed to families until 6:30.
6:30 Classroom doors open.
6:35 Second Period Classroom Presentations Start
6:47 Third Period Classroom Presentations Start
6:59 Fourth Period Classroom Presentations Start

7:23 Sixth Period Classroom Presentations Start
7:35 Seventh Period Classroom Presentations Start
7:45 to 8:00 Open Classroom Visitation- All teachers are available if for any follow up questions about curriculum or classroom practices.
Just a reminder to families that Open House is a great opportunity to meet teachers, learn about the curriculum, and hear about what is happening in the classroom. It is not a time for conversations about individual teachers. Parent Conferences will be in October, but if you need to talk to a teacher or teachers about your child before then, please feel free to contact teachers by email or phone to set up a meeting.
One of our goals this year is to use our website to help celebrate the accomplishments of our students and to share with the world how amazing they are. Today we want to celebrate the artwork and drawing skill of 8th grader Autumn Gregory. Autumn worked hard on this recreation of a book cover. She drew it all by hand and it looks awesome. Autumn has been drawing since she was five years old and it is one of her favorite things to do. Congratulations Autumn and keep up the great work!
Welcome to the start of another great school year at Fern Ridge Middle School. We want to welcome our new students and welcome back our returning students. We are excited about the coming school year. Just a few reminders:
Tuesday, September 6th– Sixth Grade Only Attend. 7th and 8th grade stay home. Students only need to bring their planner with their locker combination.
Wednesday, September 7th– Seventh and Eighth Grade Only. 6th grade stays home. Students only need to bring their planner with their locker combination.
Thursday, September 8th– All students attend. Students should bring their backpacks and school supplies on this date.
Just a few reminders for families:
- FRMS starts at 8:30. The warning bell rings at 8:25. Our doors open at 8:00 AM. Breakfast is served to all students who want it from 8:00 AM to 8:25. Dismissal is at 3:10 on regular days and 1:22 on Early Release Wednesdays.
- Please use the drop-off lane in the morning. Students can get out at the drop-off point, use the crosswalk to cross to the school, and come in through the main student entrance.
- By pulling all the way forward and using the drop-off point, it will help prevent cars from backing up onto Territorial. When cars back up on Territorial, buses get backed up too.
- Please keep the line moving by making sure your student exits your car quickly so that you can move forward and let the next car drop off.
- When picking up your student, if there is an open parking space, please park and wait for your student to come out of the building. This keeps the line to pick up students from getting overly long and blocking buses.
- Students can wait at the drop off point to be picked up. If they are being picked up, please remind your student that they need to go to the pick up point when dismissed, so they are there when you get there. When families have to wait for their student, it can create a log jam.
- Please do not use the bus lane to pick up or drop off students.
- Students always need to use the crosswalk.
FRMS would like to thank our families for a great turnout during registration. By the time registration “officially” ended on Thursday the 25th, we had registered over 257 new and returning students. Plus many more families were able to stop by on Friday the 26th. With so many families registering over these last two weeks, we were able to get a head start on entering students in E-School, putting together schedules, sorting paperwork, and everything else that needs to be done before school starts. Thank you for making that head start possible.
If you missed registration, please make sure you stop by during our office hours before the office closes on September 2nd at 11:00 AM. All students must register BEFORE their first day of school.
The FRMS office will be closed all day on Monday August 29th for staff training. It will close again on Friday, September 2nd at 11 AM.
Finally, a reminder that the school starts for 6th graders on Tuesday September 6th and for 7th and 8th graders on Wednesday, September 7th.
