Just a reminder that our Second Annual Valentine Sweetheart Family Dance will be Friday from 6:30 to 8:30. Cost per a person is $2. Each child must be accompanied by an adult who must stay with the child. This is not an event where you can drop off students and pick them up later. Cost for adults is also $2. Children 4 and under are free. Tickets will be available at the door but can also be bought in advance before or after school on Friday.
The dance features a kid friendly DJ complete with a state of the art sound/light system. There will also be selfie booths to take pictures and refreshments.
A reminder to all that as a school event, the school dress code is still in effect. This means that students should not wear anything to the dance that they would not wear to school. Please no make up or high heels or inappropriate clothing. If you are not sure, refer to the dress code in our Family Handbook which you can link to from our website.
If you have any questions, please call us at 541-935-8225. We look forward to seeing everyone Friday night for a fun evening of music and movement.
Thank you again to PALS for their hard work in making this event possible. This is just one of the many events that our school auction helps to support. Please plan on joining us for the 13th Annual Veneta Elementary School Auction on April 9th.

Families are definitely welcome to attend our award assemblies.

The 13th Annual VES School Auction is just around the corner (April 9th). Over the next few weeks, we are asking all parents to help us make this year’s auction a huge success by donating to class theme baskets. Each grade level has a theme and we are asking parents to donate items that fit that theme. You can donate small items, large items, gift cards, etc- everything is welcome and everything helps contribute to our auction.
Fifth Grade: Green Thumb or Gardening. Donations might include items for the garden, garden tools, gloves, watering cans, seeds, service gift certificates, etc. Continue reading
Just a reminder to parents that its important that we have up-to-date and accurate phone numbers. As you’ve noticed, we are now using our autodialer to call families directly when there is a late opening or a closure. If you change your phone number or other contact information, please let us know.
We’ve also had a few people ask about text messages. VES has a text messaging system through Remind.com that families can sign up for. It’s an anonymous system in that we don’t see the phone number you sign up with- just whatever name you put into the system. We regularly use the text messaging system to update parents about school events including late openings and closures. We also use it to remind families about general school events like picture day, family nights, dress up days, etc. You can sign up for text messages at the following link:
www.remind.com/join/6f3d0
Or you can download the Remind app at Google Play or the App Store and then enter the class code: @6f3d0
Just some brief reminders

Thank you to the Fern Ridge Community Library for sponsoring our event. The Fern Ridge Community Library is a fabulous place for families. Not only is it filled with great books to instill a lifelong love of reading, they have many special events and programs that families can enjoy together.
PALS will be holding its annual auction this year on April 9th. Angie Trent will be heading up our auction this year. The VES Auction is our main fundraiser and helps us to provide field trips, Outdoor School, special events/assemblies, playground equipment, etc. This year’s fundraiser will again be composed of an oral auction, a silent auction, and a raffle.
The Auction Committee has a lot of great ideas but they need your help. They will be having their second meeting on Tuesday, January 19th in the school library. They need volunteers who want to help organize the event, help with publicity, help with decorations, help with donations, etc. They are also still in the planning stages so are seeking out new ideas and suggestions. If you want to be a part of this year’s auction, please plan on joining us for the auction committee meeting on January 19th at 6:30 PM.
In addition, the auction committee is seeking donations for this year’s auction. If you know someone who owns a business or has items or services that they can donate, please ask them for a donation for our school. We accept all items new or very gently used. Every donation helps.
Save the date and plan to join us on April 9th for the best auction ever!!!

PALS will be selling candy canes beginning Monday, December 14th before school, during lunch, and after school. Parents or other family members can purchase a candy cane that will be delivered to their child on Friday, December 18th. In addition to the candy cane, the $1 cost also includes a message tag where parents can write a personal message to their child.
Students can also purchase candy canes for their friends that will be delivered on Friday for $1. Just like parents, students can write a message on a gift tag that will be attached to the candy cane when it is delivered.
So whether its a grandmother sending a candy cane to each of her grandchildren or a student wanting to send candy canes to their friends, this is a great way to let someone know that they are special this holiday season.
Candy canes will be on sale Monday, December 14th thru Thursday, December 17th. They will be delivered to students towards the end of the day on the 18th. Thank you to our PALS volunteers for their work on this fun project.
