Bond Update: What’s Happening at VES

We are very excited about the changes that will be happening at Veneta Elementary School over the next seven months. They include a complete remodeling of the office area, a remodeled library, a new addition with six classrooms, a new cafeteria, and a new front entrance. Plus during the summer of 2016-17 there will be a major overhaul to our parking lot with the long awaited and much needed separate loop for bus parking.

Of course all of that construction is going to impact how we do business while the remodeling is happening.

Here are some dates to keep in mind:

June 8th: Ground Breaking Ceremony

June 10th: Fencing will go up around the construction areas. There will be no public access to the playground/fields/track from June 10th to September 8th when school starts. We realize this will be an inconvenience to many of our community who use the playground or the fields or the track during the summer, but the reality is that with the construction we need to stay safe and keep out of the construction zone.

June 12th: Last day of school

June 16th:  Most of the school will be closed to anything other than construction. The exception will be Room 20 which is currently Ms. Beller’s classroom and was previously the Garcia Center. The school office will be relocated to Room 20 from June 16th to June 19th and August 10th to August 31st. The phone number will still be the same. The extension for Ronda will be 400 and for Ms. Johnson 201.

The school will reopen for all staff on August 31st when the front entry, office areas, and library will be completed. The new cafeteria will be finished in November and the classroom addition in December. The plan then is to demolish Rooms 18, 19, 20 (Garcia Center, Chen’s classroom) and complete the parking lot/bus loop during the summer of 2016.

Our School Design Committee will get a chance over the next few weeks to look at paint samples, floor samples, etc. The Design Committee (composed of Rochelle Orme, Mirka Chen, Deanna Greene, Olivia Johnson, Jessica Alansky, Nan Muir, and Cortnie Peeler) have spent countless hours talking about the layout of the building and the structure. Now they get to give their input on the fun details like wall colors for the classrooms and carpet for the library! We will also be talking color choices for the exterior!

Registration for new students and kindergarten students on August 19th will be from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM in Room 20.
