It is never to early to begin thinking about post-secondary education (College) if this is an option you and your student want to pursue.  Some good tips and information can be found under the College and Career Center link on the right side of this page.  Our school counselor, Mrs. Meagan Haas, has made available college “checklists” for each grade level, 9-12, for students and parents to use in regards to staying “on-track.”

CALENDAR:  Just a reminder that we have no school November 27th-29th  (Wed-Fri) for the Thanksgiving Holiday.

ATHLETICS:  Monday the 18th is the start of practices for Winter sports.  Winter sports are Basketball and Wrestling (both boys and girls).  Wrestling practice is right after school, and boys and girls basketball alternate weeks between early and late.  The first week the girls go until 6:00 PM, and the boys start at 6:00 PM.  Students that are interestsed must have all paperwork completed and fees into the bookkeeper by Friday the 15th in order to participate on Monday.  If you have questions regearding what you need, please contact Mrs. Boytz at 541-935-8200 ext 278.

ACADEMICS:  The next grade check is on December 18th.  The following week all families will be mailed a copy of their students progress report.  This will be the final progress report prior to final 1st Semester grades.  The 1st semester ends on January 23rd.

The EHS College Fair is taking place this Wednesday evening from 6-8 PM.  This is a great opportunity for students and parents to get some good information.  Colleges will be present in the cafeteria, and there will be a presentation on Financial Aid in the theater.  This event is mandatory for Seniors, and Juniors are welcome to attend.  Contact Mrs. Haas in the counseling center at extension 313 if you have questions.

Good luck to EHS student Gannon Jones who will be representing the Falcons tomorrow in the state meet at LCC!

PROGRESS REPORTS:   A reminder that there is no school Friday as teachers will be updating students grades for their 9 week progress reports.  Those will get mailed home next week.

PLAYOFF FOOTBALL:  The Falcons are home Friday, November 1st, in the first round of the state playoffs.  Kick-off is at 7:00 PM vs. the Mazama Vikings.

Grad-Night is a group of volunteer parents who organize a safe “after-graduation” party for our Senior class.  This committee meets here at EHS in the library on identified Monday evenings.  If you have a senior student, are able and willing, they are definitely looking for more volutneers!  One of their biggest fundraisers of the year is Powder-Puff Football.  The game is scheduled for kick-off Thursday night, October 31st at 7:30 on the main football field.  The senior girls, coached by Mr. Carpenter and Mr. Brands, will be taking on the junior girls, coached by Mr. Shannon and Mr. Best.  Because it is Halloween night there will be a halftime costume contest and the snack bar and grill will be open for dinner. Gates open at 6:30 and the pricing is as follows:

Family:  $15 (2 adults and 2 children) $13 if children come in costumes

Adults: $5

Seniors/Students $4-$3 in costume

Come on out and enjoy the fun!

Happy Monday.

On the academic front we are approaching the end of the 9 week grading period.  EHS is on a semester system so this marks the 1/2 way point of the 1st semester.  Teachers will be working on grades this Friday, and early next week a “progress report” will be mailed home to all parents.  For all High School students, this time period from now until December, is a critical one academically.  The year has gotten off to a good start, we made it through the craziness of Homecoming Week and by now students should have developed some routines around what it takes to be successful in the classroom.  The more support parents can give to their student at home, the more likely they will be successful.  If you are looking for ways to assist and support your student please feel free to contact their teachers anytime with questions.

On the atheltic front we have a busy week:

Today, 10/28 the EHS Varsity Volleyball team hosts LaSalle High School in EHS gym at 7:00 PM.

10/29:  Varsity Boys Soccer plays at Junction City in a league playoff game at 3:30 PM

10/31:  Powder Puff Football on the EHS Football field at 7:30 PM.  This annual event has the Senior girls playing the Junior girls to help raise money for the Grad Night Committee.  The girls have been practicing early in the morning for the past 3 weeks and they are excitted to play on Halloween night.  This event should be alot of fun for everyone involved so come on out and join in.  There is a cost for admission, once I learn the details I will post them.  Thanks to everyone involved for making this a successful fundraiser for Grad-Night.

11/1:  Varisty Football hosts Mazama High School at 7:00 PM in the first round of the State Playoffs.

Welcome to our new website, our year here at EHS is off to a great start!   The staff and students have been fantastic and we are all looking forward to a great 13-14 school year.  While we hope this website is a useful tool right from the start, it is certainly a work in progress.  If you have suggestions for improvements, or items/information you would like to see, please do not hesitate to comment or email me at gcarpenter@fernridge.k12.or.us.
