Front Row: Ava Swope, Jasper Johnson, Payton Shores, Ozzie Flores
Back Row: Elle Flores, Mattison Frank.
Absent: Ruby Devine

Today we want to celebrate the students in Mr. Ryan Brummett’s classroom. These enterprising students have brought back the FRMS News Show.  With Mattison Frank and Ruby Devine as anchors, this news program features Jasper Johnson’s weather report, Ozzie Flores’ Sports Update, and Ava Swope’s lunch report. Elle Flores and Alex Spindola round out the crew. They plan to put out a weekly news video for all of our FRMS students to watch each Monday. Their pilot episode, see the link below, was a rousing success. Thank you to these amazing students and their awesome teacher. A thank you also to the wonderful Katy Miller for helping out behind and in front of the camera.

Fern Ridge Middle School will be holding our Open House on Thursday, September 29th from 6:30 to 8:00 PM. We are excited at the opportunity to welcome families into our building. This year we are doing something different. We want to give all of our families a chance to meet all of their child’s teachers by following their child’s schedule going from class to class.. To allow more time in the classes that are core academic subjects (Social Studies, Math, Language Arts, P.E., Science) we are starting with second period and skipping the first period exploratory classes.

6:15 Doors open for parents who need to pick up a copy of their child’s schedule. Classrooms are closed to families until 6:30.

6:30 Classroom doors open.

6:35 Second Period Classroom Presentations Start

6:47 Third Period Classroom Presentations Start

6:59 Fourth Period Classroom Presentations Start

7:11 Fifth Period Classroom Presentations Start

7:23 Sixth Period Classroom Presentations Start

7:35 Seventh Period Classroom Presentations Start

7:45 to 8:00 Open Classroom Visitation- All teachers are available if for any follow up questions about curriculum or classroom practices.

Just a reminder to families that Open House is a great opportunity to meet teachers, learn about the curriculum, and hear about what is happening in the classroom. It is not a time for conversations about individual teachers. Parent Conferences will be in October, but if you need to talk to a teacher or teachers about your child before then, please feel free to contact teachers by email or phone to set up a meeting.

One of our goals this year is to use our website to help celebrate the accomplishments of our students and to share with the world how amazing they are. Today we want to celebrate the artwork and drawing skill of 8th grader Autumn Gregory. Autumn worked hard on this recreation of a book cover. She drew it all by hand and it looks awesome. Autumn has been drawing since she was five years old and it is one of her favorite things to do. Congratulations Autumn and keep up the great work!

Just a few reminders for families:

  1. FRMS starts at 8:30. The warning bell rings at 8:25. Our doors open at 8:00 AM. Breakfast is served to all students who want it from 8:00 AM to 8:25. Dismissal is at 3:10 on regular days and 1:22 on Early Release Wednesdays.
  2. Please use the drop-off lane in the morning. Students can get out at the drop-off point, use the crosswalk to cross to the school, and come in through the main student entrance.
  3. By pulling all the way forward and using the drop-off point, it will help prevent cars from backing up onto Territorial. When cars back up on  Territorial, buses get backed up too.
  4. Please keep the line moving by making sure your student exits your car quickly so that you can move forward and let the next car drop off.
  5. When picking up your student, if there is an open parking space please park and wait for your student to come out of the building. This keeps the line to pick up students from getting overly long and blocking buses.
  6. Students can wait at the drop off point to be picked up. If they are being picked up, please remind your student that they need to go to the pick up point when dismissed, so they are there when you get there. When families have to wait for their student, it can create a log jam.
  7. Please do not use the bus lane to pick up or drop off students.
  8. Students always need to use the crosswalk.

FRMS would like to thank our families for a great turnout during registration. By the time registration “officially” ended on Thursday the 25th, we had registered over 257 new and returning students. Plus many more families were able to stop by on Friday the 26th. With so many families registering over these last two weeks, we were able to get a head start on entering students in E-School, putting together schedules, sorting paperwork, and everything else that needs to be done before school starts. Thank you for making that head start possible.

If you missed registration, please make sure you stop by during our office hours before the office closes on September 2nd at 11:00 AM. All students must register BEFORE their first day of school.

The FRMS office will be closed all day on Monday August 29th for staff training. It will close again on Friday, September 2nd at 11 AM.

Finally, a reminder that the school starts for 6th graders on Tuesday September 6th and for 7th and 8th graders on Wednesday, September 7th.

We are very excited to announce that our new FRMS spirit shirts are here and they turned out fabulous. A huge thank you to Julie Johnson for coming up with the winning design.

Shirts will be sold during registration as a fundraiser for the student body. Funds raised from selling our new Spirit Shirts will go towards supporting promotion, dances, and other activities for our students. The shirts will be available in our school colors of red and blue.

Shirts will be on sale during registration for $10 each, they will also be on sale during the school year until we are sold out,

Thank you to Mr. Light and Mrs. Babcock for showing their school spirit and to Mrs. French for taking the picture.
