As medical costs grow and insurance becomes more difficult to obtain, families may find themselves not able to afford medical care or worse putting off seeing a doctor because they can’t afford it. For those in need of free medical services, Veneta has two options families can turn to. Continue reading

We have been working on planning for the renovations and additions to Veneta Elementary School as a result from the community passing the bond measure last spring.  VES will build six new classrooms, a new cafeteria, a new full size kitchen, remodel the library, and redesign the parking lot to separate the parents and the buses.

There is an opportunity for parents to get updated about the design process and the bond plans at a Community Share Meeting on November 10th from 6:30 to 7:30 at the District Office.

Once again thank you for supporting the bond measure! We are very excited about the upcoming changes and improvements to our school.

cardigan-sweaterThis week we will be donating all of the items in our lost and found to charity. That includes a lot of really nice jackets, sweaters, etc. Please consider putting your child’s name on their jacket or sweater. Names can be written on the tag with a permanent marker. If there is a name on the item, we can make sure it gets back to the owner. Even if you don’t want to put your child’s full name on their clothing for security purposes, putting just their initials on the clothing is helpful. It is very common for students to take their jackets or sweaters off at lunch and then leave them on the playground. If staff don’t have a way of identifying who the owner is, the item goes in our lost and found. At the end of every quarter, items left in lost and found are donated to Lilies of the Field. Lilies of the Field provides free clothing to Fern Ridge residents.

Oops! Road SignWe want to apologize to parents who received phone calls stating that their elementary students needed to attend Thursday school at the Elmira High School. There was a glitch in the automated phone system that the high school uses to remind parents and the call went out to all parents, instead of just the few it should have. We hope it didn’t cause too much confusion and will work to make sure it doesn’t happen again. Thanks for understanding!

School LunchGreat News! Parents can now access their child’s lunch account online through a program called  My School Bucks. This is an online payment service that allows parents to pay for school meals online using a credit or debit card. Parents can sign up to access meal account balances, schedule automatic payments, and even create low-balance alerts. There is a fixed $1.95 fee per transaction. There is even a mobile app available that parents can put on their tablet or smart phone. Parents will need to know their child’s student ID number. This is the number your child uses to access their lunch account at school. For more information, go to the Food Services page at http://www.fernridge.k12.or.us/food-services/
