FRMS and for
mer VES student Shelby McCormick has organized a rummage sale to help raise funds to buy books for the 2014-2015 Oregon Battle of the Books for Veneta Elementary School. There are sixteen book titles for OBOB and we would like to purchase 10 copies of each title if possible. Shelby has organized this rummage sale as her FRMS Leadership Class Project to help make this happen. The sale will be at the Fern Ridge Christian Church located at 24918 Warthen Road in Elmira. It will be open this Friday, May 9th from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM and Saturday May 9th from 8:00 AM to 6 :00 PM. Stop by, find a bargain, help make Shelby’s project a success, and support our school.
Come see the stars and the moon and everything else in the universe with us! Veneta Elementary is hosting a star gazing event on the VES field from 8:00 to 10:00 Friday night. We will have local astronomers there to provide their expertise as well as telescopes that students can use to view the night sky in detail. This is a unique event made possible by Mrs. Pebworth’s student teacher Alichelen Kjosness so we hope you will join us.
Veneta Elementary is lucky enough to have wonderful teachers who work hard to provide their students with the best learning environment possible. Our teachers go above and beyond every single day. They are simply amazing and we are grateful for everything they do. If you get the chance this week, be sure to thank your child’s teacher and let them know how much you appreciate how hard they work all year long to help your child be successful. A word of thanks or even a note of thanks lets our teachers know that you know that they make a difference and that the work they do matters.
Kindergarten Registration for Fall 2014
It’s time to register students who will be five years old by September 1st for kindergarten this fall at either Elmira Elementary School or Veneta Elementary School. Kindergarten PreRegistration, also known as Kindergarten Round Up, will be Friday, May 9th at both elementary schools. Veneta will hold their event from 9:00 to 10:00 in the morning and Elmira from 12:30 to 1:30 in the afternoon. Children can come with their parents to meet kindergarten teachers and visit their classrooms. Continue reading

Everyone is invited to our 12th Annual School Auction on Saturday, April 26th. Doors will open at 4:30 with the silent auction starting at 5:30 and the 
oral auction starting at 7:00. Our theme this year is “Candy Land” and we have a fun evening planned. Free Child Care will be provided during the auction with special kid friendly entertainment including face painting, balloon animals, and entertainers from the Applegate Regional Theater or ART Inc. Our third annual Earth Day Celebration for kindergarten through third grade students will be Friday, April 11th from 12:00 to 2:00.
The Earth Day Fair will be held in the gym and will feature animals from Zany Zoo, the Smoothie Bike from Jamba Juice, Smoky The Bear, and much more. Students will be able to plant seeds, create art with recycled materials, make musical instruments from recycled materials, find out about our local forests, farms, composting, recycling, and more. We are weeks away from our 12th annual auction and we need your help. Our auction is Saturday, April 26th and the theme is Candy Land. It is our main fundraiser for the school year and helps to make it possible for our students to go on field trips, enjoy assemblies, get new playground equipment, and more. Voters will get the opportunity to approve a bond measure for the Fern Ridge School District in the May 20th primary election. Measure 20-220 is not expected to increase the school bond tax rate as it just extends the current tax rate and replaces an expiring bond. FRSD will use the funds from the bond to make long range facility improvements throughout the school district as well as increase student safety and upgrade technology. There will be a bond oversight committee composed of district staff, parents, and community members to ensure that the funds are spent in line with the long range facility plan and district goals.
