Despite the heat and smoke, Falcon athletes are dedicating early morning hours to learning their sport. When the heat index is high and smoke is in the air, their ability to practice and play games is based on policies set by the Oregon School Activities Association (OSAA). If the heat index is over 105 degrees, all outside activities and/or play should stop. The same is true for inside activity if there is no air conditioning. Activity can continue if the heat index is over 100 and less than 105 degrees; however, several precautions must be taken to continue. To name two of the precautions: water must be provided, and athletes need to be given as many breaks as they desire. If a practice or game needs to be canceled, the call to do so will be made by noon using data from purpleair.com and local weather stations.

Sidenote: If you have an athlete who hasn’t signed up yet, it isn’t too late. Call the front office for more information.
