Season 4 (Winter Sports) contests begin today, we want to remind everyone of the spectator requirements for basketball and wrestling.

  1. Masks are required.
  2. We are only allowing 2 home spectators per athlete and a ticket will be required.  No visiting spectators are allowed.
  3. All spectators need to enter through the ticket booth out by the stadium and check in with our door supervisor or the QR code on your ticket.
  4. All games and meets in the main gym will be streamed on NFHS, please go to https://www.nfhsnetwork.com/ to watch.
  5. Please do not arrive more than 20 minutes before the start of your designated contest, entry will be allowed up to 20 minutes after your contest has begun.

We apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause, but we are still required to follow all OSAA and OHA guidance for our athletic events.

Good afternoon,

Elmira High School was notified today of a student testing positive for COVID-19, yesterday.  Thank you to the parent who quickly notified us, as it allows the District to begin our work that needs to be done, usually 4-6 hours before Lane County Public Health is notified by the lab, and has time to reach out to us.  The District has been working with Lane County in looking at this case. What has been found is that there were no close contacts at school due to strong COVID protocols, and as a result, LCPH is NOT requiring any student to isolate/quarantine.  This is not what is classified as a “school contact.”

Although the student was in class this week, District staff have checked with EHS teachers and all safety protocols were followed. Lane County has directed that if students maintain the 3 feet distance, wear a mask and wash their hands, a classroom or cohort does not need to quarantine.  As an extra precaution, although not required, the High School will be notifying the parents who have students in the same classroom via email, so those parents can monitor their student for any symptoms. If you have questions, feel free to email the EHS Principal at rgardner@fernridge.k12.or.us and he will respond before Monday morning, or call EHS at 541-935-8200.

An additional element of this case is that there were multiple “close contacts” with friends/peers outside of school.  To include work, hanging out with friends, meeting at the lake, etc…  The family is very cooperative and supportive and is working with Lane County Public Health to get these names, and if your student was a close contact outside of school, either the family of the student, or LCPH will be reaching out to you to discuss the need to quarantine.

The schools have many protocols in place to help protect your student during the school day. However, the school cannot monitor students outside of school. Please help us keep students in school by encouraging them to wear their mask and keep 3 feet apart even when they are out with their friends.

Thanks for continuing to do your best so that we may keep our schools open!

We are a little more than 5 week away from graduation and we wanted to give seniors and their parents a chance to ask questions about our plans for this year’s celebration.  Mr. Gardner will be hosting a Zoom meeting on Monday, May 10th at 6 PM to share information and answer questions.  Please use the attached Zoom link to get your questions answered.

Graduation Q & A

Elmira High School was recently ranked the 21st best high school in Oregon by the US News and World Report.  We were also ranked the second best high school in Lane County.  This honor is really a testament to our teachers and classified staff and to the overall efforts of our students.  For additional details about how these rankings are determined and what areas that Elmira High School excelled in, please refer to the following link.

US News and World Report Information

Good evening,

Elmira High School was notified today of a student testing positive for COVID-19.  The District Nurse has been working with Lane County in looking at this case. What has been found is that this case did not come in contact with another positive COVID-19 person at the high school during the school day.  This is not a school contact.

Although the student was in class this week, the District Nurse has checked with the staff and all safety protocols were followed. Lane County has directed that if students maintain the 3 feet distance, wear a mask and wash their hands, a classroom or cohort does not need to quarantine.  The District Nurse and the High School will be notifying the parents who have students in the same classroom so those parents can monitor their student for any symptoms.

If you have questions you may contact the District Nurse at tparsons@fernridge.k12.or.us.

The schools have many protocols in place to help protect your student during the school day. However, the school cannot monitor students outside of school. Please help the school keep students in school by encouraging them to wear their mask and keep 3 feet apart even when they are out with their friends.

On Friday, April 30th Lane County will be moving back to the Extreme Risk category.  Unfortunately this will require us to greatly limit the number of spectators allowed at our athletic events.  Beginning on Friday we will need to limit home and visiting spectators to two per participant.  We hope that this is a temporary measure and look forward to getting back to allowing a greater number of fans at our athletic contests.

As we have already shared (in a previous post), there is an opportunity for students 16 and older to sign up for a Pfizer vaccine at LCC this weekend, April 24th and 25th from 9:00-3:00 pm at LCC.  This clinic is by appointment only, please go to http://lanecounty.org/vaxclinics to schedule your vaccine.  The district is not involved in this opportunity at all, we are just sharing the information.

NEW OPPORTUNITY:  On Thursday, April 29th, EHS has 60 slots for students at the Bethel Health Clinic to receive the Pfizer vaccine.  This will be a “field trip” for the first 60 students that sign up.  Students need to be 16+ years old, and MUST HAVE signed parent permission slip.  Sign-ups take place beginning tomorrow morning.  Once the 60 slots are filled, we close registration. Below is the important information:

WHEN:  Students must be at EHS on Thursday, April 29th prepared to load a school bus at 8:15. The bus will leave by 8:25.  We expect the bus to return between 10:30 and 10:45.

WHERE:  We will be going to the Bethel Health Clinic on the Willamette H.S. campus.

WHAT:  Students will receive the first of 2 COVID-19 Pfizer vaccines.  The 2nd dose appointment will be scheduled 21 days later, on Thursday, May 20th, also from 9-10 AM.  We we will have the same procedure in place for the transportation/field trip.

PERMISSION SLIP:  In order to board the bus, a signed parent permission slip is required.  The permission slips will be available to the students that signed up, in the EHS front office, beginning tomorrow.

HOW DO I SIGN UP?: Sign-ups begin at 7:30 AM, tomorrow morning, April 23rd!  You can sign up by coming to the front office at EHS, or by calling the EHS office beginning at 7:30 AM at 541-935-8200.  If calling, DO NOT leave a message.  We will have three people taking calls. If the line is busy, continue to try.  The information needed to sign up include, Student Name–Parent name–Parent Contact number.

Lane County Public Health will be holding a vaccine clinic for people 16 to 17 years old.

Where: Lane Community College

When: April 24 and 25 from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm.

What: 2,400 doses of Pfizer will be made available for those 16 to 17 years old.  Additional doses will be made available to the general public.

How: This clinic is by appointment only, please go to http://lanecounty.org/vaxclinics to schedule your vaccine appointment.

Important: All Lane County Public Health clinics are free.  You do not need insurance and will not be asked for any financial information

We recently received a reminder from the OSAA about the requirement that all participants in OSAA sponsored activities wear a mask.  We want to remind everyone that spectators are included as participants in these events and that OSAA and Elmira High School mandates that anyone in attendance at our athletic events wear a mask even outdoors.  We are working as hard as we can to allow as many spectators as possible at our athletic events, but that will be a challenge if we have issues with mask compliance.  Please help us out by wearing your mask and being respectful of the people who are being asked to enforce these rules.
