Update on Elmira High School Bond Projects - Athletics Complex - Opening Date Postponed
FRSD Community,
We are wrapping up final touches on numerous bond projects! The VES gym and restroom remodel looks fantastic. Our new Science rooms at EHS are open and operating with only a few final touches needed in the coming weeks, the new FRMS bus-loop is working as designed and our HVAC systems have had significant upgrades that will make all of our building environments more stable.
Having said that, the opening of our new EHS Athletics Complex, which was to have occurred tomorrow, needs to be postponed.
While construction crews have made significant headway this summer, the district is adjusting schedules to ensure safety, quality, and completion of the project.
Despite multiple delays caused by material availability, permitting timelines, and crew availability, the district is pleased to share the new turf field, and track will open for PE classes and athletic practices next week, possibly as early as Monday, the 8th.
However, several supporting facilities and structures are still under construction and will not be ready for game-day use at the start of the school year.
As a result:
- Home games scheduled for the weeks of September 2 and September 8 will be relocated to away venues.
- The district is optimistic that soccer games will be hosted at Elmira High beginning the week of September 15.
- A home football game is scheduled for October 10, which will also serve as the official ribbon-cutting and community celebration of the new facilities.
While we are naturally disappointed to have to adjust schedules, we want to be fully transparent with our community about the status of this project. Our priority is ensuring that when the Elmira High School Athletics Complex officially opens, it is safe, complete, and built to last.
We are excited about the opportunities this facility will provide for our students and community for generations to come, and we appreciate your patience and support as we take these final steps toward completion.
Professionally,
Gary Carpenter | Superintendent Fern Ridge School District
