OSAA Proposed Re-districting.
Dear Families of Future Falcon Athletes,
I hope you’re doing well. I’m reaching out to you today because the OSAA has proposed re-districting and
reclassification changes that could significantly impact the future of athletics at Elmira High School, where
many of your children will be students in the coming years.
Under the current proposal, EHS would move into the 4A classification. This would place our teams in
leagues with substantially larger schools; programs we have competed with in the past and struggled to
match due to size, resources, and participation numbers. While our coaches, athletes, and community have
been working hard to build strong, sustainable programs, this shift has the potential to disrupt the
momentum we’ve been working to create.
Even if your child is not yet a high school athlete, this decision will shape the opportunities, experiences,
and competitive environment they will inherit when they reach EHS. We want to ensure the future of our
athletics reflects what our community truly needs. The last meeting before the committee sends its
recommendation to the Executive Board is on Monday, December 1st. I will be traveling to Portland to
attend the meeting and speak, yet again, on our behalf.
We would greatly value your thoughts on:
● How moving to a higher classification might affect your child’s future athletic opportunities
● Concerns about safety, competitiveness, or participation given the size differences between schools
● How this shift might impact our community’s ability to build strong, confident, and successful high
school programs
● Any long-term effects you foresee on student engagement or overall school spirit
Your voices matter. Decisions made now will directly affect the experiences of your children when they
reach high school, and it’s important that families at all levels, from elementary to middle school, are part of
this conversation.
Please feel free to share your thoughts by replying directly to this message or contacting me via email.
Thank you for helping us advocate for what’s best for our students, both now and in the future.
Warmly,
Emmy Erwin
