First graders at VES are showing incredible rigor in their writing—and making a big January Jump! Students are now writing long stories with several sentences, a milestone for this time of year. Their imaginative tales began with an imaginary day building snowmen and continued with the exciting adventures that happened after the snowmen ran away!
Students planned their ideas first and then turned those plans into complete sentences. At the beginning of first grade, writing even a short sentence was hard work. Now, students are confidently writing multi-sentence stories, sounding out words, and putting their phonics knowledge into action. They wrapped up their work by illustrating their stories with detailed artwork, bringing their writing to life.
