Following Directions Never Looked So Fun! 🥪✏️
In our FRMS 6th grade writing challenge class, students were tasked with a deceptively simple assignment: write clear, multi-step directions for making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. The twist? Mrs. Lloyd followed the directions exactly as written—no assumptions, no shortcuts!
The result was laughter, creative problem-solving, and powerful learning. Students quickly saw how word choice, sequencing, and clarity matter in real-world writing.
This lesson perfectly reflects our district pillars:

  • Relationships: A trusting classroom culture where students felt safe taking risks and laughing together
  • Rigor: Authentic writing that demanded precision, revision, and critical thinking
  • Relevance: A hands-on, memorable experience that brought writing skills to life
Sometimes the most meaningful learning starts with a sandwich—and a great teacher willing to follow directions literally. 👏
