Congratulations to Elmira High School student Violet Barrett, whose artwork has been selected as the winner of the 2026 Congressional Art Competition for Oregon’s 4th District! Violet’s powerful and thought-provoking piece will now travel to Washington, D.C., where it will be displayed in the United States Capitol for one year alongside winning artwork from students across the country. As part of this incredible honor, Violet and a guardian will also receive round-trip airfare to Washington, D.C. to attend the annual awards ceremony recognizing this year’s winners. When reflecting on the meaning behind the artwork, Violet shared:
“With so many women in the world who have experienced the loss of their innocence so young, the deer is a symbol of that innocence taking place just the moment before.”
