Week of November 19, 2018

Happy Turkey Day Week!

This (short) week in Mr. Hart’s classes:

  • AP Lit: students will be reading chapters 42-48 from Great Expectations, and there will be a vocab test on Tuesday
  • English 1: Students will be reading a few more Greek Myths, including “Pandora” and “Demeter”
  • Poetry: We will continue looking at poems by Walt Whitman, and on Tuesday, we will be writing a Thanksgiving Day themed poem

There is no school 11/21 – 11/23

Be safe out there this week.  Drive carefully, and don’t get trampled on Black Friday!

Week of November 13, 2018

What the…? It’s the middle of November already?!?

This week in Mr. Hart’s classes:

  • AP Lit: Students will receive a new vocabulary list (test next Tuesday).  We will also continue reading and reviewing chapters 30-39 of “Great Expectations”
  • English 1: We will be starting our next unit: Greek Mythology/The Odyssey.  There will be Powerpoints, group work, and reading of some famous ancient Greek myths
  • Poetry: We will start the week with sharing our “Dead Poets” poems.  We will then take a closer look at the poetry of Walt Whitman

Welcome to November!

This week in Mr. Hart’s classes:

  • AP Lit: We will continue to read “Great Expectations” and there will be a couple of study guides and other assignments this week
  • English 1: We will finish the movie for “Of Mice and Men” and we will have a writing assignment that we will work on (due Friday).  We may also begin our next unit (Greek Mythology/The Odyssey)
  • Poetry: We will begin the week watching “The Dead Poet’s Society”. Then we will start our next unit: American Poets

Boo!

This is what is going on in Mr. Hart’s classes this week:

  • AP Lit will be discussing the first section of “Great Expectations” and continue reading
  • English 1: We will wrap up our “Of Mice and Men” unit with a movie and a test (on Thursday)
  • Poetry: We will be wrapping up our Meter unit, reviewing what we’ve learned so far, and having a mid-term exam on Thursday

This week in Mr. Hart’s classes:

  • AP Lit: We will continue reading and discussing “Great Expectations”.  Expect a vocab test on Friday!
  • English 1: Students will be having a vocab test on Tuesday.  We will also continue reading from “Of Mice and Men”.  There will be study guides for the book which students will have to complete.
  • Poetry: We will start the week with a study of Denotation vs. Connotation.  We will end the week with Meter

This week in Mr. Hart’s classes:

  • AP Lit: We will be reading “Great Expectations” by Charles Dickens.  There will be new vocabulary words and reading homework
  • English 1: We will be reading “Of Mice and Men” by John Steinbeck. There will be various classwork assignments which may become homework
  • Poetry: We will continue our study of Sound Devices in poetry.  Late in the week, we may transition to Meter

Short week this week!

  • Wednesday, all students will either be testing, or for seniors, working on graduation related activities. Freshmen will be taking the EXPLORE test.  Sophomores and Juniors will be taking the PSAT test
  • Parent Conferences are Wednesday (4-8pm), and Thursday (8-12pm)

This week in Mr. Hart’s classes:

  • AP Lit: We will read “The Fall of the House of Usher” by Edgar Allan Poe.  We will also begin reading “Great Expectations” by Charles Dickens
  • English 1: We will read something from Poe, and begin reading “Of Mice and Men” by John Steinbeck
  • Poetry: We will read something from Poe, and we will begin analyzing poems for sound devices
