All parents and guardians are invited to the Veneta PALS meeting tonight at 6:30. PALS (Parent Action League for Students) is the parent group for Veneta Elementary School. They do a lot of great things around our school for our student- from helping with special events, to raising funds for field trips and special projects, and much, much more. We have a small group of highly dedicated PALS parents and they could use your help. If you are interested in becoming more involved with your child’s school and helping out, PALS is a perfect way to do that. Continue reading

For those who don’t know, the S.A.N.T.A. (Sharing Among Neighbors Toy Appeal) Project is a wonderful grassroots organization in Veneta that provides toys and more for children in the Fern Ridge Community during the holidays for free. Parents in need can come on Saturday, December 20th and receive toys to put under their tree, have those toys wrapped, and even pick up a tree if needed. The Santa Project makes the holidays brighter and more cheerful for many of our children. This year they need our help. Continue reading
Veneta Elementary School will be part of the Fern Ridge Holiday Bazaar this Friday and Saturday, November 21st and November 22nd. The gym will be full of vendors selling one of a kind holiday items ranging from art work to jewelry to handcrafted one of a kind items. Our PALS volunteers will be selling Smencils, new holiday SMENS, T-Shirts, and Water Bottles. Many of the classes have also made handcrafted ornaments and other items to sell at the Holiday Bazaar.
Our Scholastic Book Fair will also be open during the Holiday Bazaar. The Book Fair will be in the library. The Book Fair is a fundraiser for our school and 40% of what we sell comes back to the school in the form of books and other items for the school library. Scholastic is sending us the biggest Book Fair we have ever had which means more items to choose from including holiday gifts and cookbooks.
Both the Holiday Bazaar and the Book Fair will be open on Friday and Saturday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The Book Fair will also be open during Parent Conferences.
The biggest and best Scholastic Book Fair that Veneta Elementary has ever seen is right around the corner! The Scholastic Book Fair will be open on Thursday, November 20th from 7:30 to 8:00 PM. It will also be open on Friday, November 21st from 7:30 to 5:00 PM, Saturday the 22nd from 9:00 to 5:00 PM, Monday the 24th from 8:00 AM to 7:30 PM and Tuesday the 25th from 8:00 AM to 11:30 PM. The Book Fair will feature books for students of all ages and interests including cookbooks and gift books for adults. There will also be gift items and toys for sale. The Book Fair is an important fundraiser for the school. 40% of what is sold comes back to the school. This means that if you spend $10 at the Book Fair Veneta Elementary receives $4. As medical costs grow and insurance becomes more difficult to obtain, families may find themselves not able to afford medical care or worse putting off seeing a doctor because they can’t afford it. For those in need of free medical services, Veneta has two options families can turn to. Continue reading
We have been working on planning for the renovations and additions to Veneta Elementary School as a result from the community passing the bond measure last spring. VES will build six new classrooms, a new cafeteria, a new full size kitchen, remodel the library, and redesign the parking lot to separate the parents and the buses.
There is an opportunity for parents to get updated about the design process and the bond plans at a Community Share Meeting on November 10th from 6:30 to 7:30 at the District Office.
Once again thank you for supporting the bond measure! We are very excited about the upcoming changes and improvements to our school.
There are several notices and other items going home on Monday, November 3rd (Tuesday, November 4th for Kindergarten) that we want to give you a heads up on. Please make sure you check your child’s backpack for the following: Continue reading
This week we will be donating all of the items in our lost and found to charity. That includes a lot of really nice jackets, sweaters, etc. Please consider putting your child’s name on their jacket or sweater. Names can be written on the tag with a permanent marker. If there is a name on the item, we can make sure it gets back to the owner. Even if you don’t want to put your child’s full name on their clothing for security purposes, putting just their initials on the clothing is helpful. It is very common for students to take their jackets or sweaters off at lunch and then leave them on the playground. If staff don’t have a way of identifying who the owner is, the item goes in our lost and found. At the end of every quarter, items left in lost and found are donated to Lilies of the Field. Lilies of the Field provides free clothing to Fern Ridge residents.
