cat reading The Fern Ridge Family Resource Center, located at Veneta Elementary School and serving students birth to five throughout the district, will host a workshop to help families promote early reading skills. Aimed at parents but with activities for children, the workshop will be in the Konnie Room at the Fern Ridge Community Library from 6:30 to 7:30 on Thursday, May 5th.

The workshop will be lead by Fern Ridge School District Kindergarten teachers Mari Jones and Michelle Marshall, along with the children’s librarian Sharon Chittock from The Fern Ridge Library. This will be a hands-on workshop where parents can pick up ideas and strategies that they can use immediately. Families will also get to make and take reading activities that they can do at home. Children are welcome.

Teacher Appreciation Week is May 2nd through May 6th. We are extremely lucky to have the great teachers that we have at Veneta Elementary Teacher AppreciationSchool. Each and everyone of them cares deeply about their students and is dedicated to their job. They put in countless hours at school and then even more hours at home preparing for school.

This is our time to say thank you to them and to let them know how much we appreciate what they do and how well they do it. Take a moment this week to write a note to your child’s teacher thanking them for all that they do or help your child write a note. Teachers become teachers in the first place because they want to make a difference in the life of a child. If there is a teacher who has made that difference for your child, take the time this week to let them know that their hard work and commitment paid off.
