Students who raised $50 or more for our recent auction will participate in a field trip to Territorial Park on Friday, June 3rd. We will be leaving Veneta around 1:00 and returning around 2:15. PALS will be providing popsicles. It will be 87 degrees so if your child earned this trip and will be going, you may want to send them with sunglasses or a hat or put suntan lotion on them. We will provide bottled water.

Please note if either the 5th grade track meet or the 3rd grade field trip run late, we will schedule another trip to the park for those students next week.

With the end of the school year just a few weeks away, there is a lot happening at Veneta Elementary School. We have put together a list of upcoming events for families to refer to.  Thank youImportant_information_logo

Welittle-girl-with-big-purple-calculator have had a lot of questions this year about the Common Core State Standards for math, what they mean and what they are. Our new math curriculum, Eureka Math, is closely connected to those standards. We came across a great explanation of the Math CCSS that we thought parents might find useful.

The form can be picked up at school or by clicking here. Please note that while we try our best, we can’t guarantee that we will be able to honor all teacher requests. Families can bring blankets/pillows to put on the gym floor to sit on during the movie. We will also have some chairs available in the back of the gym.

Children should be accompanied by an adult. Please do not drop children off and leave them unsupervised.

Thank you to PALS for organizing and running this event. Thank you to the Fern Ridge Community Library for helping to sponsor it.

A few weeks we announced that we had to temporarily put on hold teacher requests until we had finalized teaching assignments for the 2016-2017 school year. There were/are enrollment issues and budget issues that had to be resolved before we could determine how many classrooms we needed at each grade level. Until we know what our grade configuration will be for 16-17, we could not assign teachers.

The good news is that it looks like those budget and enrollment questions will be resolved in the next few weeks, which will allow us to finalize staffing decisions for 16-17. Our new plan is to notify families on May 23rd of teaching assignments for 16-17. We will then accept teacher requests from May 23rd thru May 31st. Teacher requests must be in writing and made on the official form. While we work towards honoring as many requests as we can, we cannot promise to honor all requests. Requests must be written positively- parents must request who they want for their child and not who they don’t want.

Classroom assignments will be posted the week before school starts in September.

If you need a teacher request form, you can click here to get it.

If circumstances change and we cannot at least tentatively assign teachers to grade level assignments, we will notify families. Thank you for your patience.
