Oregon State Standards: The Oregon State Standards define what students should know and be able to do within a content area at specific stages in their education. In addition to setting and supporting the educational standards, the goal of the standards and instructional support team is to ensure that every learner’s strengths are recognized and their skills are developed through the opportunity to receive high-quality instruction, programming and services.

    • In order to graduate from Elmira High School, students need to earn 1 credit of Physical Education.  The PE department has several different courses available for students of all ability levels to choose from.  First, there is a ½ credit required class called PE1 that resembles a more traditional Physical Education class that all students must take to graduate.  This class develops basic skills, techniques, knowledge, and strategies to a variety of team-based sports and games, with an emphasis on sportsmanship and teamwork.  Games like basketball, Pickleball, volleyball, and Ultimate Frisbee are examples of games they might play.

Other PE classes kids can take to earn their remaining ½ credit include weight training, sports conditioning, leisure sports, or they can take PE1 a second time.  After they earn their 1 credit of PE, all additional PE courses taken will count toward their elective credits needed to graduate.
